Never thought I'd see the day of putting cats ON the car, but after adding a BTR Stage2 cam, the gas smell at idle is overbearing at idle. 90% of the time coming to a stop at a light I smell nothing but gas as the breeze flows in the windows. Standing behind the car at idle for 5 minutes will leave my clothes smelling...I've had enough of it.
I have TPS 1 7/8, X pipe and C5Z Ti catback. Ideally I'd need to find a 3" cat or a 3" to 2.5" version if they make them.
Anyone have some suggestions on cats they added and how they worked for keeping the fumes at bay?
I went with some very simple and somewhat cheap 3" in and out Flowmaster cats in conjunction with my BTR 2 NA cam. They do and amazing job of knocking the smell down.
LG Motorsports super-pro headers has the interchangeable off road/high flow cats sections. They are 3” and should clamp or could be welded into your mid-pipes.

Awesome, are they 3"? Would you happen to have a PN for them?

I have flow master 3"-2.5" transitions and these cats can replace them. Thank you
The cats are Flowmaster 2230130 223 Series 3" Inlet/Outlet.
That's exactly what I did was removed the Flowmaster collector reducers I used to run and put the cats in in place of them. I was actually able to find some stainless pipe reducers to go from the 3" ID outlet on the cats down to 2.5" OD so there was very little fiddling around to install them.

I just realized I listed the pipe reducers wrong for for using a 3" inlet outlet cat. The reducers are 3"OD on one end and 2.5" ID on the other end those are about 4 inches long.
I'm not going to muddy up your thread, but I have a crappy youtube video of the cat installation if your interested?
I also came across Thunderbolt cats online which come in 3" and are 300 cell count metallic. Now that I found them, I remember using some YEARS ago on a Mustang I had.
After digging around it seems like a better idea to stick with metallic struts vs ceramic for longevity and efficiency.

I do believe that metallics can be a little better but people have had those fail too. For me it was a toss up between the Thunderbolts and the Flowmasters which both seem to be acceptable for my power level. Plus if one ever were to fail they're pretty easy to change.
Good video. I'm surprised you added magnapacks to an exisiting catback. My LT/catless/x pipe/Ti catback is not loud at all inside lol.
What catback are you running?
Does the new combo of cats/x pipe/catback (TBD) drone at all?
But great call on going to an X pipe. I did the same since the stock H pipe only has a small hole in the crossover.
When we bought the car it had already installed a fairly old and beautiful Corsa sport or touring exhaust on it. While it's not their loudest system those Corsa mufflers don't really muffle lol. I would say they just alter. I kind of regret monkeying with the magnapacks but it did what I wanted to at the time which was quiet down the catless longtubes. Sometimes in the nice weather I drive this car to work so a loud exhaust and sitting in traffic is a frustrating experience. and don't get me wrong I don't mind a car on the loud side if the time is right. My wife also drives this car at times which she's free to do lol.
If had a TI exhaust system honestly I probably would like it, even if it is on the quiet side. Especially now with the bump in compression and heads and cam swap.
So the big reason for getting rid of the H pipe magnapack combo, was it did stink pretty bad after the cam swap, and two, the idle sound was horrible. It was a real eye opener when even my tuner said pretty much to my face politely that your car sounds like **** lol. He's the one that actually gave me the Bassani X pipe for free out of his pile of old exhausts.
In the end I think we're happy with the current combo although she screams with some throttle. Over passes and tunnels are insane.

Sorry for the long winded rambletron.
Ahhhh yep the Corsa system (aside from stock C5 or Ti system) don’t drone. I’m wondering if adding catsto my Ti system will result in a “too quiet” setup. I added the cam (and eventually heads) to HEAR the cam and useable power.
If it is too quiet the Ti system may be removed. But I fear whatever I put on, which will likely be a Borla SType setup, will drone. But first thing first, make it not smell and go from there.
Oh no problem. I can see how the Corsa could be on the loud side. I haven't been in a corsa equipped C5 with LT's and catless to judge how loud it is inside. It can be drone free, but still "loud".
The benefit of the Ti system is no drone and very tame on light throttle with ability to get loud under WOT while being extremely light. The downside is inability to easily remove it if needed and if any alignment/adjustment is needed you need someone that can weld Ti.I would love to cut/weld/adjust my Ti system to tuck the mufflers higher but I'm stuck with it. I would sacrifice the weight if I can find a comparable drone free but multi-joint catback. Corsa is always the answer but damn are those systems expensive. I'd even entertain a base C5 system, custom fitted/flanged behind the differential and with a bypass mod if it comes down to it.
I got some cats that Mr Black suggested due to cost, availability and delivery times. Summit had them for $132 shipped and will arrive most likely in one MAYBE 2 days for me in Cincinnati OH area.
Install is planned for this weekend when my wife is off on a friends vacation LOL.
Happy to hear it all worked out smitty. I will let you know if I ever have any long term problems with them. Which unfortunately isn't all that uncommon even with really expensive aftermarket cats let alone the cheaper ones. So far so good though.
