Default Community designed Wide Body kit for the C5! Join in and share your Ideas!

Hey guys,

First off we just wanted to say thanks for all your fantastic support over the years! Everyone has been amazing with all our new projects and we wanted to just say thank you again to
everyone who has helped us!

Recently we have been getting asked for more track oriented parts for the C5, so we wanted to reach out to the community and get some direct input on what type of a wide body kit would you
want for your C5? We are able to take concept ideas very quickly turn those concepts in prototypes!

Lets get started on the list of things for this wide body kit:

Width:
2" or 3" Wider

Function:
track oriented or street oriented

Design:
Would you want to keep the new wide body retro or improve the style of the kit and modernize it slightly?
Vents louvers to release air pressure?

Influences:
C5R

And last but not least, at the very end of this project we will give away 1 full WB kit for free! We will offer a drawing on our FB page and do a live giveaway! The only conditions are that you join/like our FB page and you are able to put the adequate rims to match the kit and send us high res pictures!

My opinion:

- 2" wider already allows 335-355mm rear tires and 12-13" wheels. No point in going wider. However, if you did go 3", it is just a simple offset change to make wheels and tires fit.

- Make it a "street" kit. It is much easier to make street parts work with race cars than it is to make race parts work with street cars.

- I would recommend NOT trying to "modernize" the panels. That always ends up looking really cheesy, or like a C6Z or C7Z copy. What I would recommend is making the widened panels look as OEM and subtle as possible. For example, from above looking down, the "Coke bottle shape" of gentle curves looks much better than the "Bushwacker 4x4 flares" look.

- 2-3" wider max

- I'd want a kit that could be street driven, but definitely prefer function over form still. No fake vents that don't serve a purpose

- keep it looking like a C5, even if it has some modern features. A front bumper that easily allows a front breather conversion would be great, and even better if it had additional areas for more coolers

- spllitters. Everyone seems to love splitters. One that can be extended easily to at least the front of the k-member would be great

I think 4x4 bushwackers would be awesome giving it the off road look it deserves, shoot me now. Lol.

I’d like to see another option for the front fascia. That’s probably the least available panel option for C5’s.
Those of us with superchargers would really benefit from getting cool air from the front to the intercooler, as well as the condenser and radiator.

If possible, offer a couple of different hood options.

A good front breather bumper cover would be great, I made this one myself from a stock cover but if I was starting from scratch I would have not gone up so high, was just incorporating the license plate location in the design. Maybe more of an Aston Martin style front opening. Sorry for putting this pic up again just seemed on topic.Name: photo391.jpg

Personally I like the idea of the wide body C5 but in my opinion the execution was off. The rear add ons look just like thst, add ons. Make a complete overlay that doesnt look stuck on or so “aftermarket”. Create a wider rear that actually BLENDS in with the lines of the car. Like the front fenders you see offered. They replace the whole fender and maintain a nice flow and keep the c5 lines but are “wider”. So in essence you create a front facia or splitter that goes with the front fenders, side skirts that flow with the curves but also gives a straight line from the side at the bottom, rear quarters to “flow” with the car into the rear bumper and finish it off with a diffuser and spoiler. For good measure add a carbon fiber overlay for the targa tops and a hood that matches your head light covers as well.

Just my thoughts.

I would add to the votes here for well designed fenders that are wider, rather than those that look like someone bought add on fender extensions and Bondo'd them on. The C4 ZR1 for example had genuinely wider panels than the base car - IMO, that's the right approach

Would love to see some hood options for those of us with or who want to add a Magnacharger TVS 2300... Example: Making an MCM hood again since it seems everyone wants one here.. the high rise version or something similar.

This thread is about wide body panels, not hoods. However, there are a couple tall hood options for PD blower owners on the market. You need to think like a manufacturer, though. How many people actually own TVS 2300-equipped C5s? Do you think a company would pay for the tooling to create a mold for just a small handful of hoods? If I owned a TVS 2300 car, I would simply pick up one of the current Eaton MP-friendly hoods and just notch the rear of it for clearance. Personally, I would grab an ACP Magna-Extractor hood without question.

Exactly. Just like the Grandsport/Z06 C6/C7 has wider body parts.

Having owned a "93 ZR1 previously, I considered it a wide body as the rear fenders and body line was moved out giving it a wider look.. Look at pictures of the C5R and they did the same thing in moving the body line out and not adding flares. Caravaggio did several wide body conversions. Something along those lines with 2" wider per side with the lower cove line down having functioning brake cooling ducts with skirts below to the front wheel opening and above the cove line blended or shaped into the stock door opening. A wider rear fascia with the tail lights moved out to appear in the factory location giving it a wider look between them and a diffuser being part of the fascia. For the front fenders something along the L5 style with 1 1/4" wider. Top it off with a MCM design hood.
