Hey guys, so I installed a smaller style ikon front lip on the car and noticed the temps got about 15-20 degrees warmer. Was around 215-220 doing 60mph and now is at about 230-235. Any chance doing the license plate mod will get me back down? Thanks for the help! Really hoping I can keep the lip!
Odd that the lip caused that much difference. In regards to the license plate mod I had serious heat issues with my Maggie S/C 99 and I cut the plate filler used gutter gard screen from Home Depot cut the bumper open and it worked wonderfully for my application. Cost me less than $20 and some sweat. Lemme see if I can find the thread
Yea that would be great, and yea I’m surprised this lip would make that much of a difference. I feel like 235 is getting pretty warm. Just wanted some guys opinions about doing the license plate mod. Would do it the same way you did and just make my own screen etc.
1) raise the car back to stock to help with airflow
2) swap hood or add hood vents
3) licence plate mod and hood vents for cold air in and hot air out
4) dump the spoiler
5) idk too early in the morning right now.
If you want to keep the lip, you'll have to go through the cost/trouble of compensating for it, it's pretty simple. I too am surprised that lip caused THAT much of a difference from the looks of it, but it could be just enough to divert enough air from the already small scoop under the car and on the intercooler. The license plate mod should definitely help a lot (you're going to have to cut through the A&A sheet metal if you have that too). A set of hood louvers would help also.
A 160 degree tstat and fans programmed to come on earlier kept mine cool enough when I added the eBay ZR1 lip. I'm currently having a sc installed and installed trackspec side hood louvers in anticipation of the extra heat. I'll be doing the license plate mod when I get the car back as well.
Your car looks clean and stock right now. If it was running fine before the lip and you want to keep it looking "clean", I'd remove the lip before I dove into hood louvers and opening up the license plate area. But if you like the look of that, start cutting!
It's not a straight shot, so really look at it before cutting away. There are some wire looms and a foam support that goes across the top 1/3 of the area. It'll look stupid if you open it all the way up and just expose those things. Either move the looms and trim the support, only cut so high, or open it all the way and put a screen there so it helps hide what's behind it. And you'll have to trim the sheet metal either way.
Mine ran hot with A&A kit until I added Dewitt’s and spal fans. I know people run stock radiator with these kits but in Florida, the way I want to drive, it was the only way it was going to stay cool.
