Yesterday I had to stomp on it to get around some bicycles. I hit it hard and notices some slight pinging/knocking at first. What is the cause of this and how do you fix it.
2001 base vert, automatic. Only mods are cold air intake and axel back exhaust.
what fuel do you use and how hard do you drive it ???? top of the pistons and heads could have a build up of carbon, use a top engine cleaner for that, use 91 or higher octane ????

Always 91 octane and have been using lucas oil gas additive for the last couple of fillups. Maybe I can use some Techron? But I live at almost 5000 feet and I heard at that altitude you can go with lower octane? I still use 91 octane from Costco.
I really don't drive it that hard. I do occasionally get on it but not that often. I don't know how it was driven by previous owners.

I agree with Pounder !!...try some GM Top End Cleaner...I used 2 bottles as some preventative maintenance a few months ago...1 can into the PCV and the other can through the Brake Booster !!...the back of my valves are probably clean as a whistle...none of those pesky P0300 misfires which are difficult to diagnose in that area !!
