Default Squeaky Ride

Just curious if my new 2002 C5 squeaks so much and bobs over bumps because it needs new shocks? I would gladly replace the aging shocks with new Z06 ones if that will fix the problem. BTW, current mileage is 55K so I don't know if that warrants changing them. Thanks!

My 1997 squeaked over every bump in the road when I first got it with 28k miles on it. Replaced the original swaybar bushings and the car is 100% silent now over the bumps even with the original shocks on it. At 32k miles now.

Also a good idea to replace the end links of the swaybars if they are still the originals.

I experienced a creaking instead of a squeaking, but the replacement of the sway bars and especially the end links hushed it all up nicely!

There are many fine sway bars available, depends on what you're using the Vette for. I used Eibach, but they are only one of several great possibilities.

Fresh swaybar bushings also fixed my squeaky ride. I'd start there. Cheap fix. Definitely won't hurt to replace the 17 year old shocks, but most likely not your noise problem.

Another common squeak on these cars is if the rubber pad wears off on the rear most exhaust hangers right under the bumper.

Mine started the the creaking/squeaking about 2 months after I bought it last Feb. Replaced the shocks and sway bars with C6 Z06 shocks and C6 Z51 sway bars that came with new bushing. Ordered them from forum vendor Cultrag. Also ordered Moog greaseable endlinks on Amazon. Best money I’ve spent so far on car. Rides firmer and corners like a rocket ship on rails.

Could be the shocks, sway bars, or a number of other sources. Really had to say, but shocks could be a cause especially if it bounces excessively over bumps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't want to throw a huge pile of money at it after just buying it, but I'll start addressing these identified spots one at a time.

I do not think the shocks are squeaking....the shocks themselves do not squeak....maybe the rubber bushing on the shocks do though...you can get new c6 z06 shocks for around $220 which is a good deal... and your Vette will handle a bit better also....just saying

pm me if interested and i can give you the correct shocks c6z06 part numbers to make it easy for you to order

I've got a 100k. The top squeaks terrible, mainly from the cheap aftermarket side seals. The suspension isn't much better. I'm due for shocks and sway bar bushing and end links. Maybe this winter.

I'd 100% start with swaybar bushings then. Cheapest part to start with (upgrade to poly as well) and it's your most likely culprit. It's a common issue.

Curious about the Moog endlinks.

Lots of times rattles/creaks/squeaks and pops in these cars are something completely different than typical. Case in point where I very bothered by a dashboard rattle. Someone here told me to try some lube on the hood bumpstops. “Dash rattle” went away.

Recently there was a thread about the hood noise. One of our brethren discovered that a quarter sized piece of the Velcro LOOP side on the contact point of the bump stop stops all noise. I did it on all 4 points on the hood and the 2 in the hatch and it works.
