I just bought JARHEADC5's 2000 targa top from the forum. When I picked the car up, he mentioned that a CF member makes and sells an Iphone adapter cable for the radio. I don't want to replace the 2000 head unit with an aftermarket one, and have the installer turn the interior into a rattle trap with improperly installed plastic panels & adapters. I also don't have access to old tapes and CDs. I was told that there is a cable which can plug into the 12 CD changer in the trunk, which will let me listen to iPhone tunes through the AUX feature of the radio.
Just replace the stock headunit w/ a quality modern single din & be done w/ it- who wouldn’t want Bluetooth in their car these days- especially a manual!?! Many states have made talking on phone in hand illegal.
do it yourself if you are worried about damage, it’s an easy car to work on. I had a local shop do mine I know the owner & had him put a bunch of dynamat in the door panels/trunk wherever possible to help insulate the cabin from noise/heat = opposite of your concerns.
i have JL audio speakers & small amp in trunk, love the whole setup, really modernized the car
Peripheral makes what you want. It's called the PXDP-PXHGM4 and it plugs into your CD changer plug in the rear of the car and lets you control an ipod/iphone from the head unit. You just plug it in and snake the plug in cable for the phone forward. BASIC functionality. You're not going to get bluetooth support or phone call support, but it'll play and give music control. It can be found for about $90-100 still. I've had one in my car since 2007 and have been perfectly satisfied with it.
*edit* If you have a lightning cable device......the above won't work as it comes with a classic adapter.

Buy this and just be done with it. Works fantastic, and I’ve tested it in my 2018 F150 which has a direct connect to my iPhone, and the sound is really close.
I know, for $18 I was skeptical- but in my 04 Z16 Z06, I want it stock. Just use one of the open USB ports to plug in the phone via a lightning cable.
Give it a try- I run my Apple Music, Waze, and all my other music apps from my iPhone XS thru it.

Looks like a great product and would do the basics that I'm looking for. Does it fit into the cigarette lighter port next to the ash tray? Also, will it power off when you get out of the car, or do you manually need to remember to remove it from the cigarette lighter each time you get out of the car?
I have a similar unit that I bought on Amazon for $15, it also has hands free phone capability. It seems to work just fine. It might not be a perfect solution, but it certainly is an easy fix.
I bought this iSimple unit that plugs into the CD changer harness and charges and plays from this Ipod nano. It stays tucked behind the ashtray door out of site. The unit has the old IPOD plug as depicted but I can use an adapter to connect my Iphone as well. So when I'm on a trip Iplug in the Iphone and can use the GPS and listen to tunes, podcasts etc.. Not sure if it is still available it's been 5 years at least since I bought and installed this. Good luck!

This is what I bought. Hooks up to the wiring for the12-disk cd Changer. No need to remove the radio and hook it up to the back of the radio. Charges your iPhone with a lightning connector and plays cd/digital quality music from your iPhone (music library, Pandora, Spotify, etc) through the car Bose speakers. Also verbal instructions through the car speakers if using one of the iPhone mapping systems (Apple maps, Google maps, etc.).

I have a 2003 Z06 and I don't believe I have a 6 or 12 disc cd changer in the trunk. I'm looking for a connector that has a usb to plug my iphone into the stock radio. Anyone know of a part like that?

All of these that I'm aware of, are made to fit the older apple connector, they don't seem to work with the iphone 10 or later
Audio quality on the cheap bluetooth transmitters is acceptable, but not great, it was an okay interim solution, but mine now cuts out on me after it seems to warm up.
