I had a break/brake squeak on the left rear of my 2001 vert. Right behind my ear. Annoying as hell and showed up out of the blue. So I don't know the history of the car and decide to replace all of the shoes with Raybestos Metallic pads. The rotors look stock and are smooth with no pulsing when I am heavy or light on the breaks/brakes. I did not have them turned. The old shoes were at about 50% worn and did not have any of that break/brake quiet stuff on the back of the pads. So I pull out the old ones and put the new ones in with the pink break/brake quiet stuff on the back of the pads. Now the left rear squeaks worse than before. I wonder if it will go away as they wear in? Or is there some other stuff I can put on the pads that eliminates the squeak? Any ideas?

Did you grease the pad tabs.. and clean the tab runners??? brake dust accumulates in the runners, and the pad tabs can act like nails on a chalkboard.. since the tab runners are hardened metal, as are the pad tabs.

There are two guide tabs on each pad.
They side into a removable retainer in the caliper. The retainer is a hardened piece of hardware. This retainer gets filled with brake dust overtime and can bind the pads. You need brake pad grease. A can of brake clean will clean the retainers. Once clean, add some grease . The pad tabs will float in these guides without binding and there will be no hard metal to metal dry contact in this high contact area
Everyone here is well meaning.. sometimes a little hazing goes on but for the most part most people, especially long time tenured members are here to help...
