2003 Convertible, trunk CD changer
Thx in advance
Jerry
Remove the changer from your car and open its cover. You will see that it is basically divided in 2 areas placed side-by-side, one to accommodate the magazine and another one where the selected disc gets extracted to and played.
Below the area that holds the loaded magazine, approximately centered with respect to it and opposite the loading door, there is a white plastic lever. If you action that lever, it will unlock the magazine. Just be careful because one of the trays or CDs might be stuck half way between the magazine and the playing area, preventing you from freely pulling the magazine. Be gentle!

I removed the 2 connector screws and got the cover off. Can't seem to find the white lever you referred to. I can send you a photo if you can share your email address. Mine is belair1956@comcast.net.
thx

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I have a few pics here to help you. I just took them and added some annotations.
You already removed the top cover. Now you need to do the same to the bottom one. Just be gentle. There are no more screws to remove. Bottom view, from behind:
Once you unlock the magazine, be careful because it's possible a tray or a disc may be stuck halfway between the 2 areas.
Good luck and let me know how it goes!

I'll be back at this first thing tomorrow. Here's my other toy, 1956 Bel Air Sport Coupe, 100% stock.
Take care
Jerry
GCG,
I removed the guts from the lower case and the face plate. I pushed the lever and heard the release click. I'm not sure how to persuade magazine to eject. There is a disc in the play side, but I don't think it's restricting the magazine. I'll keep trying but welcome your sage advice!
Thx
Jerry
I plugged the unit into the harness, opened the access door out popped the magazine! A disc (in its holder) was halfway into the play are. I nudged it out. No idea why it got stuck in the first place. Then I found a disc stuck in the play area and was able to remove it. My Vette did spend the Summer in my garage, there were 2 heat waves; perhaps heat caused an issue? All back together again. Any cleaning I can do?
Thx again
Jerry
That was my suspicion all along. By any chance, while the magazine was inserted in the changer during the summer storage, was the battery perturbed at any point? When the changer gets energized, it goes through an initialization process that includes scanning all the magazine trays. If power was interrupted again while it was going through this, it's possible that a tray was caught midway between the magazine and the playing area, and then when power was restored the mechanism was not able to recover from that.
I suggest when you're planning to store the car for a while, to remove the magazine from the changer as a preventive measure

By the way, your '56 is beautiful!!!

NOTE: regarding maintenance, to take advantage that it's completely open, you could try to clean the laser's lens with 91% isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. Just be gentle and don't leave fibers behind

My 12 CDs of Oldies are alive!! Your guidance was the reason for my success! You are very knowledgeable! The car sat all Summer. When I first started it upon my return the battery was very weak. Next absence I will indeed remove the cartridge.
I had contacted a repair shop in La Jolla CA; they wouldn't touch the changer. 'Too old'. Well, I'm old and I (and YOU) fixed it! I can't thank you enough!!!
Best regards,
Jerry

I'm really glad everything is up and running now. I too enjoy my CD changer to the max, so I understand how you must have felt.
You're very welcome, and if by chance you pass by Miami, FL, let me know so we can have a
to celebrate Gilbert
