Default C5 Glass Top question

I have a 1997 with a glass top. On the inside of the glass it has a film with the dot pattern that blocks some of the sun but not all. Does anyone make a custom fit solid film?

Not a custom fit. The vendors will sell you one that they advertise as such but you have to trim it.

Take it to a tint shop and they'll be able to help.

Or there is also a press-in headliner you can use.

Thanks. I'll try and find that press in headliner.

Best thing for the top is static cling dot matrix shade. I've posted about it in the past. You can buy a sheet on eBay or Amazon. A good tint shop will not tint it for you since it can damage the top.

I use the clip in place headliner and it has worked fantastic.

It already has the dot matrix film. Still to much heat coming in. We have had record heat this summer (Florida).

Is this easy to take in and out? If you wanted to take your top off a couple times per day would it be a pain?

If you're talking about physically removing the top with the 3 latches then it has no bearing on removal.

If you want to just remove the headliner to enjoy the glass top a couple times of day I would say no, it won't last long doing that.

Yes, completely removing the glass top. So I guess you're saying the liner is attached to the glass top? If so that would work fine.

Just too damn hot here in SC. I got rid of my Targa top, and only use the solid roof.

I used to switch mine every October and April, then you have the best of both worlds.

Just got my RPI Headliner in. I installed it but it does not lay flat at all. Rounded way out in the middle. For you guys that have it is this normal? Guess it does not hurt anything, just thought it would lay flatter. Quality is real nice.

I wouldn't say that it sags but at the same time I wouldn't say it perfectly flat up against the glass either. To me it looks what I would consider normal when I look in the car.

My car had one from MidAmerica when I bought it. Never sagged, even when I added leather upholstery to the surface. It used stiff plastic tabs that forced their way between the glass and the weatherstrip.

Mine must be made a bit to big. I can push the middle up 3 or 4 inches.

Must be a different design than mine. I had to add some tubular rubber weatherstrip to keep mine in contact with the glass rather than flutter.

At it's lowest point I might have an inch between the headliner and the glass. Visually it looks fine so it doesn't bother me.

I wonder if you have the plastic tabs of the headliner engaged into the frame as far as they will go?

they sort of ‘self force’ themselves into place. I find it easier to install with it on my workbench rather than fight with it overhead.
If the gap is only an inch I wouldn’t get excited over it either.
