Recommendations for a shop in Orange County or Long Beach area to put in a HUD windshield. More interested it it being right than low bid. What mfg is best?
I am totally new here, so pardon the strange addition to the question.. I heard that you don't need to replace the windshield with a "HUD" windshield..
Any truth to that?

if you have a heads up display and want the best reflection performance you want the windshield designed for the hud. At least in theory that’s how it works.

I know I've heard that too - -that a regular windshield will reflect, just not as well.
I think the technology is that there is a reflective piece in between the laminates but it certainly can be expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it.
GM is not inclined to spend money on parts that do not make a difference.
Reflectivity or clarity, something made a sufficient difference for the them to go through the effort to create a special windshield. For the trivia inclined, four different windshields were offered on the C5 cars that I am aware of.
Anyway, just looking for a recommendation based on personal experience.
Otherwise I will ask at Corvette Mike and J&D Corvette for recommendations.
If it ends up making a difference for you, my 2001 Z06 was not HUD-equipped from the factory so probably has non-HUD glass. I retrofitted in HUD and it's totally visible... except when I wear my polarized sunglasses it's no very visible.. Can't help but wonder if a HUD windshield would make a difference for HUD visibility with polarized sunglasses.
I had my windshield replaced in August. I called the Corvette dealership and they told me they don't do it but referred me to a local company they recommended. They went thru my insurance (State Farm) and replaced it with the factory equipped windshield replacement which was solar with HUD. They came out to the house and did a fantastic job and the windshield is great.
I had glass breakage coverage so I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket. If you have insurance coverage and the car has HUD, they will replace the windshield with the same so there is no point to procrastinate over whether you replace it with HUD or not.
