I just checked into this with a #1 car upholstery shop in Seattle. They said only go with Robbins or EZ On. Their experience with other tops, while good quality, require many more man hours to fit properly.. Check out tops online
I went with Robbins for mine and have been happy. GAHH is also a very high quality replacement. The newer tops, I believe 01 plus are thicker and quieter. I believe the material that I went with was the Twillfast 2.
I am currently in the middle of installing a Stayfast Top on a 61. One of the most common problems is undoing a previous bad install. People that don't know what they are doing have a tendency to glob a lot of glue on it..Especially on the rear ws area. This has to be removed to install it the right way.
There are usually a lot of broken/stripped screws to replace. I also take off the front edge of the side frame rails to straighten them out.. It is very common for them to be bent. Other parts of the frame also had to be straightened.
By far the most time consuming part of the install is proper aligning of the frame. That can be very frustrating.
And, this is a very nice one owner car.
For those of you have installed a new top for your C5, did you also order and install a new headliner and is that separate from the top?
They are sold separately. I have found that a headliner that looks pretty good with the old top many times looks old with the new top. I would look at the existing headliner very closely before reinstalling it. jmo
