Default LS1 Build

Hey all.. new here

I’m about to put together a scat 383 Stroker with AFR 230 cat port heads. Decent cam. I have to check but I believe it’s .625 625 lift..
I’m not sure what to expect yet.. never played around with a ls before. Compression should be right at 11:1. Got gm performace lifters and hardened push rods with Howard’s rockers.. all top notch stuff..

looking for info and opinions from people who have done the scat stroker, AFR heads etc...

What exactly are you wanting to know? As long as the machine work is accurate and correct, you shouldn't have any issues, especially on an n/a setup. You're going to want a decent intake like a Fast or MSD to take advantage of it

Machining is perfect. I use the beat shop in town. They gave me a sheet of all the clearances. Piston to bore, mains, rods etc.

I want to know what to expect power wise out of a 383ls with the $2500 AFR heads I paid for... Will a $1000 FAST intake be a decent power gain for the money? If it’s only 15-20 I’ll probably pass

Lots of variables, but most 383 setups make high 400s and some can crack 500 if they're more aggressive. With the extra displacement, you'd probably see 25+ hp from a ported intake as long as you have the cam that can use it. An LS6 intake would be a choking point

Yes you need a good flowing intake for those $2500 head other wise you ha e wasted the money on those heads if you are not gonna make the effort for the best air flow they can get. FAST 92 or 102 and at least a LS2 silver blade TB. What piston dish dish and rods? What is the cc volume of the head chamber?

Also to add in that you will be running LTs and good free flowing exhaust that will scavenge good.

These are the heads , 62 cc chambershttps://www.jegs.com/i/AFR+-+Airflow+Research/033/1610/10002/-1?gclid=Cj0KCQiA2ITuBRDkARIsAMK9Q7OKYPtR e6a9gOUFih-3kbZCheT53AgU6QG80damgcv2KzJlymO_7FAaAo-6EALw_wcB

H beam rods. Mahle Racing treated bearings, pistons are a two valve flat top mahle racing forged. Steel rings as I was originally planning to supercharge it.

It’s a waste of good parts to put this in a 98 convertible 🤣🤣🤣. Some days I just want to find a low mile LS1, stuff it back in there and send the car down the road.

the same week I bought my corvette a friend of mine got a 04 z06... took me for a ride in it the other day.. now I want a zo6 🤣🤣🤣

just got off the phone with LKQ. Ordered a 66k mile drop in from cali.. It’s better this way. I think by the time I buy the intake, TB, and bigger injectors I’ll be at what the engine cost me..

The 383 will be much better In something else that i can run stand alone engine management

Eh no need for stand alone unit. I am putting a 383 in my 2000 Coupe. Itll be a nice ride for the curvy roads.

2000 has the newer Ecu.. my tuner said I should upgrade to the later Ecu and repin the connectors.. I told him I’m not that attached to the car 🤣🤣🤣
