Default C5 Door Stays / New Here

Hi folks,

Hope I don't make too big of a fool of myself right away. Took me forever to find a way to post. I have 2004 Corvette Convertible and the "door stays" as I would call them are terrible! There are only two spots that my open door will rest in and neither are acceptable to me when entering or exiting the vehicle. Well, wide open does work when possible. My question is, other than something extravagant like Lambo doors, is there a way to add “stay” spots? Something infinite sounds ideal, but just a better sweet spot would help.

Thank yall!

The lower door hinge includes a spring and cam, the indents in the cam determine where the door stops. The lower hinge can be removed, the spring removed and the cam modified by welding in the stop indents and ginding in new ones where you want. Here's a picture of the spring and cam on the lower drivers door with the first cam detent in view.

That plan sounds extravagant

......and in order for it to work right and not bind it has to be engineered and machined correctly.

I never thought about it before, but now that it is brought up, who would have thought such a simple concept would turn out to be so complex?

I have to agree. The first door stop is barely enough to get in/out (I'm 6'4") and the second stop is so far out it can hit the car parked next to you. My Lambo doors on my 02 have a perfect spot fully open, it's between the two stock stops. They were a major pain in the azz to install though. I used the DREAM CAR CUSTOM's kit ($1350) so you don't remove or cut the front fender. I, with some friends installed the kit, I can't imagine what it would cost to have someone install the kit.
