1600 Mile East Coast Road Trip Complete!
Just finished my trip to DC, Bowling Green, Nashville, Blue Ridge, and Roanoke with the start and terminal point being Queens NY. I'm happy to report the C5 did well despite having 7 previous owners and didn't leave us stranded at all! This is a magnificent machine capable of 13 hour 100 MPH trips as well as being packable, carrying our suitcases, bags, and souvenirs we bought along the way. I had such a blast being able to pass cars in 6th gear while driving an incline on some of these roads as well as enjoying the low revs at high speeds. I feel obligated to thank the forum for helping me keep the car reliable! Now I know why I need to move out of this cesspool! Here are some pics we took along the way:

Sounds awesome!! This was a major motivation for me to come back into the Corvette world with our recent purchase. I admit, I'm a bit timid about taking a 1996 car out on an extended trip...I'm thinking spending the remainder of the drivable months this year into next on shorter hauls, then doing something more extensive late next Summer/early Fall.

Nice! We got some of the same photos.
Glad you enjoyed it. They really are great touring cars. Glad to see another one that gets DRIVEN and not sitting in the garage or paraded around to pointless car polishing contests.

My wife and I use our Vette as our trip car. We usually do 3 round trips from home to my daughter’s in Indianopolis at over 1600 miles per trip and a trip or two into Vermont. It’s a great touring car. Two suitcases and my golf clubs plus soft overnight bags. Our ‘01 has 78k and climbing. As with any car of its age preventive maintenance is key.

2020 C5 of the Year Winner- Unmodified
Nice photos, nice young Corvette couple. Glad the trip went uneventfully well. I like the photos of the C5 and C8 together. Nothing bad about the C8, but next to the C5, I don't feel compelled to rush out to buy one. Time to plan your next trip.

Thanks to all who commented! Takumi is the name of a character in a Japanese cartoon show about racing the mountain passes of Japan. He races a little toyota corolla against bigger heavier cars and wins a lot on the downhills. If you can stomach Japanese cartoons I'd recommend watching Initial D with english subs.

Sounds like a fun trip and one that showcases the versatility and comfort of the C5.

Glad you had a great trip. Last year did almost the same trip but 3600 miles in three weeks. Fla, Murphy NC, VA, Ky, WI, Fl. Flawless with the c5. Use to live in Queens, NY 31 years ago.

Nice write up and great pictures.
I thought I loved the C8 until I just seen it next to your C5. Hell, I wonder if I would even fit in that C8 (I'm 6'4")

Very nice photos and congrats on the trip and even better, acknowledgment of your passenger. My nearly 99-year-old uncle once told me the key to life is to never stop. Seems like you have the right mindset!
