That was really cool to see. I've always been impressed by the MPG that I got from my Z06, I remember getting flipped off by some ignorant dude passing me in a Prius who was apparently offended by me driving what he considered a gas guzzler not realizing I was getting 30+ MPG. I've always wondered what i would get now that it has a 434ci LS2.
I didn't watch the whole video but in the beginning he is using the DIC mileage which I always find to be reading high in my C5s. In fact, I find my black 99's DIC reading to be 6-7 mpg higher than actual mpg.

I would agree that the DIC run a little high but when he did his finally test, he filled the tank. did a 350 mile loop then came back to the same exact pump filled the tank and divided the miles driven by the gallons used, came up with 40.2

The C5 can get some really amazing fuel economy, especially with the 6 speed, and if he can actually get 40.2 mpg from the car, great. I know I could never approach that kind of gas mileage with any of the three C5s that I had.
I find the videos interesting. If we go by the dic / mileage, it can be interesting.
I had a 00 6 speed coupe from new back in the day. That car at 65mpg in cruise in 6th I on the highway and normal driving around town would show 36 to 44 mpg Instant on the highway in level travel. I don't recall the average. I tried once to go for high miles per tank and while I remember it being over 400, I do not remember the specific. It often averaged 350+ miles per tank. Bear in mind, those were pre ethanol add-in days so a gas tank made about ten percent more power. Not sure if that translates directly to milage though.
Now on my current 99 m6 coupe in stock form with headers if I try the same cruise conditions the dic reads 33 to 41 mpg instant. I have never tried for most mileage on this one. But best I've seen recently was 367 in a fill up. Not sure how much was left in the tank, didn't calculate.
So seeing this light burn thing on dic doesn't seem too extreme. Cool though.
I wish I could have my C5 A4 tuned for lean consumption for cheap, I mostly drive in city at 40-70km/h....and some time on highway at 110km/h...
would save some bucks but probably not enough to justify the cost of tuning...

He did a tune which gave something like 30 horsepower on WOT and it goes into lean burn and AFR goes up to around 17 in certain idle or cruising parameters which allows for high MPG on the highway. As far as downsides, I don't see any other it's not like you're losing power.
So how does one do what he did to their Vette? He gets more horsepower and better MPG, I can't see the downsides to this. Does this work on a 07 Tahoe with a 5.3L? It gets horrible MPG.
I bought the Eco Vette for 8800 bucks on eBay last night. Flying to Chicago Friday to drive it back. I’ll let you guys know how it does on the drive back to Nashvegas. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F223788885551

Nice, see if you can do the trip on one tank of gas with that lean-burn mode enabled at highway cruising, then submit the video to Alex so he can post it to his channel as a final hurrah!

With the Eco tune the car made 367 hp to the rear wheels at wide open throttle. Better than the Z06 of the same year. So it’s got both! More power and mpg. Car is stock LS1 other than a cat back.
