I know our C5's make a great GT car and I'll be doing some long trips in mine this summer. I watched a YouTbue video fo a guy doing one of these touring rally's and thought it might be a fun run. I looked at this one as I have family in Denver area and friends in the PNW.
Then I saw the entry fee. $3600! It includes 7 nights accommodations but still, that's over $500 per day and doesn't include meals. Too rich for me.
Then I thought maybe I'd just try to organize a looser type event of just a few friends over a planned route. No entry fee and everyone just pays for their own expenses. Has anyone done this kind of trip before?
Al, I did a Lake Superior circle tour road trip along these lines years ago. 3 couples in our vettes. The key was that the fellow who organized it had already navigated the contemplated route on his motorcycle. Knew all the places to stop and sightsee, restaurants and motels. Obviously the bigger the group the trickier the logistics become. Then just need to check with state highway departments about any new road work prior to departure.

That's the way to do it. organize your own route, stop when you want, and even camp to save cash. And camping introduces you to new neighbor's, unlike the sterile and secluded motels.

Hi Wayne. Yeah, I was thinking that first one would be roads I've already traveled (not in my Vette though) so I'd know what we would be getting into. I think a lot of these touring rallies started out that way, just a small group but grew bigger over time (and more costly).
Good idea on checking for road construction.

I'd be up for camping. My car has a small receiver hitch so I could pull a small trailer like the Drag Week guys do but with camping gear in it. Might be hard to find others that want to camp though given the age demo of the average Corvette owner.

I did a rally in Canada few years ago. was around the same price as you mentioned. at first I was hesitant because of the cost but man oh man looking back I am glad I did it and don't regret a thing. if you never done it before I personally would recommend save up and it might hurt at first but spend the money if you can, because its not only about driving with other cars. its the fact of meeting a lot of new people / friends with the same passion as you...cars and driving!
