My wife and I took an 02 silver Z06 for a ride yesterday. Car had 2630 miles on it and is being sold at a dealership. When driving it I noticed that under moderate acceleration from 2nd gear to 3rd gear I felt a slight vibration in the shifter (I think I shifted out of 2nd and into 3rd at about 4000 rpm. This is the first C5 I have ever driven, is the vibration normal? Other than that the car is very nice. I would appreciate any feed back.
Yes, the car has an after market shifter. It is a Hurst. That is the only modification done to the car. Would this be the cause of the slight vibration?Does an aftermarket shifter affect the warrenty?
Most dealerships would not void a warranty for a shifter, I always ask my dealership first before modding the car (not that is would stop me, I just want their view) my dealer is fine with bolt on mods. The short throw shifter will give you more "feedback" than the stock shifter, I have a Hurst on my car now and get less noise and feedback than I did with my stock shifter, of course this took a combo of shifter parts that I had to accomplish this, but drive a Z06 with a stock shifter and you will not mind a little feedback and noise.
I tried the Hurst and found it to be worse than the stock in terms of noise, and ease of use. I think if you try a vette with the stock shifter you will find none of the problems you noted. Oh, I sold my Hurst the next day! The stock has more "play" but is much easier to use, IMHO.
Hey bob, time to start pumping iron so you can get that hurst in to 6th or reverse!
Just kidding, I have a hurst and love it, but you have to put some effort into the 5, 6 and reverse. If you are a typical american who likes driving an automatic,or want your wife to drive the car, stick with the stock shifter.
