Just bought a Quick Jack 5000 and was wondering if I could use it to keep my Vette elevated for the winter months. My thinking is mice would have a harder time climbing a steel structure to get inside.
Any thoughts on long term (5mos.) hanging of the suspension. Crazy idea or maybe not?
I used my new Quickjack today and I was under my 03 vert looking at things.
I just happened to look at the suspension and I don't think I would leave it just hanging for a long period of time. It probably wouldn't hurt anything but it wasn't designed for that.
As far as rodents, they can and will get into anything. I don't have any advice for you on that.
Good luck!
In retrospect my idea wouldn’t be the best for the Vette. I respect the answers given. I’m looking forward to using the QJ starting with changing the trans cable bushings as a PM measure. Thanks for your responses. 👍
Just stuff dryer sheets in the wheels and all over the undercarriage. The mice don't like them.
I also recommend the CarJacket. https://www.carbag.com/carjacket/
I read about it on here, and mine is now tucked inside of it for it's second winter storage stint.
I read somewhere ( I think in this forum) that hanging suspension may damage the valving gaskets/bushings/seals in the shocks. I did, however, use scissors jacks on the frame, raising the car a few inches for the winter to take some weight off the tires..
What I use is dryer sheets around the perimeter of the Vette and a combo of dryer sheets and rags with peppermint oil on them inside and under the hood. It does work to keep the mice out. I was just having a brain fart about the QuickJack and do believe the comments on suspension damage.
Thanks and Merry Christmas to all!
Yeah, I hear you. I had them build a nest in my parts cabinet drawers. I’ll keep the Vette on the ground and just keep the peppermint oil on rags in the interior and at each wheel. Thanks for all the responses!
