I got a good deal ($140) I bought a used/new Vettnuts double din console off of Ebay. Guy said it was in a car he parted out. This thing looks perfect, not a scratch on it. Didn't come with brackets for the radio but I can buy them online. My question is does the AC controls get moved down a little to install this? I've seen some double din installs with a template to drill new holes for it. If not great. If so does anybody have one? I'm sure most people probably throw them away.
That is a good deal!
It's the Metra bezel that shifts the HVAC control. If I'm not mistaken, you'll the hvac fits to the bezel best if you shim the driver's side forward about 1/8" and the passenger side forward about 1/4". Don't be surprised if you need to sand the opening just a touch on the bottom of the aperture, depending on head unit. Quite a number of threads on fitting and finishing.
Thanks. I've been reading and watching videos to get ready to tackle this one. Going thru the car and fixing stuff and getting it like I want it. Took the dash off and fixed the HUD not to long ago. Most everything isnt to hard on these cars, just time consuming.
I just installed mine and it fit very nicely, did not have to move the AC control. Be careful and watch the 2 tabs at the top of the bezel that they go in correctly and not hit the top edge of the radio.
Just installed a Kenwwod in mine. Had to remove remove the two metal braces and move the AC controls down (per template). But I believe my bezel was the Metra brand. And also had to bend the two tabs at the top out of the way.

Yes, bending the 2 tabs on the back of the upper part of the frame helps.
Back of the metal radio housing frame.

That's not a good deal, that's a great deal!
Good luck with the install and post pictures.

Don't buy the plastic Vettenuts brackets. Either buy the ones on ebay or make your own out of metal.
As mentioned you won't have to shift the HVAC with the Vettenuts bezel but you may have to shim it out to get rid of gaps.
I have had my vettnuts console on a shelf for a year now. Not looking forward to tearing the dash apart to do the install.
I delayed installing double din for over a year, like you, not wanting to deal with tearing the console apart and dealing with the install, but it's a lot easier than you think. First research this forum (General and Audio sections) for how to's and tips, get a good metal drill bit to drill out the rivets of the shelf, takes 10 to 15 minutes. Get the Vettenuts metal radio bracket, it's adjustable and will make install much easier. Make sure you connect all cables, cameras, etc. to the new radio the first time to avoid having to pull it out later on just to connect one cable. Test all functions of the radio before putting everything back together. If you keep the original bose speakers or replace them you will have to adjust the sound to your liking through the radio controls, EQ, fade, bass, etc. Also if you get a powered subwoofer and stick in the back it will make the sound sooo much better.
I used the Axxess XSVI-2004 interface to connect the new radio to the bose system and it works great.

You're overthinking this one my friend. The 'hardest' part of the job in the dash area is removing the OEM brackets, for which there are many methods. I have a couple of good abrasive bits for my Dremel. I just went after what was visible of the rivets and ended up nice and clean with no damage or slipping from trying to use a drill. I still have the brackets in my scrap metal bin. To me, running the wire to the rear for the camera was more annoying. I was near the end of DDMODS supplying Corvettes, so I had his whole package including his excellent harness and brackets. I only had one 'non harness' wire to attach to one of the factory leads in the front.(or maybe the lighter, don't remember). Everything PCFRED stated is right on as well.
DALT10, if you are on a budget you can make your own brackets. Not difficult at all. Vettenuts copied the OEM bezel, so you shouldn't have much adjustments there. Mine was modded by DD and of course it fit, but I did adjust the position to accommodate the Kenwood 9903. One thing I do recommend you spend money on is the proper harness to save yourself a lot of aggravation and adapting.
FWIW, putting a double din receiver, especially with CarPlay or something similar with GPS ability updates our cars tremendously.
