Default Battery charging problem?

I replaced my battery about 5 months ago. Last night I'm cleaning around my rear trunk lid and inside my doors. So basically having all or one of them open for, at most, 3 hours. I have had zero issues with my car since the battery replacement. After my work was finished, the car won't start. I put my battery tender on and after being on all night it's still in charge mode. It should have been solid green this morning. Any ideas on what might be going on here?

Might want to take the battery back to where you bought and have them check the battery. Could be a dead cell or internal short. Did you check the battery voltage with a voltmeter (not the dash gauge)?

The C5 has a timer that turns off the internal lights after about 20 minutes so that the battery didn't excessively discharge; did the interior lights go off after that time period?

I did see that the engine work light turned off automatically. I'll check the battery voltage. I checked it before when I had this problem and it was fine but that was after recharging it. The problem before was that I left my radar detector on for two days so that was understandable.

If your battery was totally discharged, then it may take more than an overnight cycle to get oit back up to a full charge. But a good idea to take the battery to where you bought it and have it checked for a bad cell.

A battery that is discharged cannot be load tested until it is fully charged. Also, if the battery is 'stone dead' it will need to be jumped off a live battery to start charging.

They did all that. Kept my battery for the entire day.

Your battery is discharged. Take it to a parts store like autozone and have it tested. If it has a bad cell they will tell you. Otherwise they will charge it and give it back to you.

Default Battery charging problem 😑

I bought a new battery back in June and I thought everything was good. The other night I was working on my car with the doors open for 3 hours at most. The car won't start, just the rapid clicks you get when the battery is discharged. I assumed it was the doors being left open but two or three hours doesn't seem like enough to draw down the battery that much.

I trickle charge it back up, get it started and drive it for about an hour. I'm thinking everything is good. The other day after the car sat for two days I hop in and the damn thing won't start and is rapid clicking again. I'm going to get the battery tested. The charging gauge appears to indicate a strong charge. Next would be get the alternator checked right?

First thing I would do is make sure terminals are clean and tight. Then go from there.

I know the engine compartment light does. I didn't notice the interior lights. I'll check that.

Anytime you discharge your battery fully you’re risking issues with the cells. More likely than not a cell is damaged. My guess is a new battery will solve your problem. Lights only go out if you open something and leave it alone. If you’re opening and closing it resets the lights and timer.

I checked it before I started charging it and it was low. I put on the trickle charger and it's 12.4 volts now.

What does the car's voltmeter register when the car is running? Better yet, what's the digital voltage displayed on the DIC when the car is running?
If it's showing over 14vdc, have the battery load tested.

Yep did that after I purchased the new battery last summer.

It's 13.5 When I first fired it up (just now) It jumped to 15 but then settled in at 13.5. I 'd never paid attention before but this time I made sure I eyeballed that.

So 12.48 volts right after being on trickle charge for 24 hours plus. 12.67 after drive (just now) I'm going to take it in tomorrow to get it load tested.

All light timers are working properly. I'm assuming the trunk light would be fine too. I just checked the interior and engine compartment light.

4 years on an OEM battery in hot or cold weather becomes a crap shoot sooner rather than later... Living in heated climates (100 deg summer days not uncommon) the best I could get was a bit over four years on three different batteries...
In one case the first indication was starting on a cool fall day and the battery died when the starter was engaged.
