Default more vararam results

we got some decent weather (55 deg/45 dewpt), and the car felt great in the power dept. Unfortunately, my 60fts sucked, but I still managed 2 11 sec passes:

#1:
60ft.... 2.005
330.... 5.310
1/8.... 7.989
mph... 94.77
1000.. 10.267
1/4.... 12.176
mph... 118.41

good.... first time over 118. bad...worst 60ft ever on the dr's

#2:
60ft.... 1.943
330.... 5.230
1/8.... 7.883
mph... 95.27
1000.. 10.150
1/4.... 12.055
mph... 118.66

wow! over 95 1/8!

#3:
60ft.... 1.943
330.... 5.167
1/8.... 7.813
mph... 95.47
1000.. 10.079
1/4.... 11.984
mph... 118.63

anytime my poopiety butt driving gets an 11, it's  time

#4:
60ft.... 1.977
330.... 5.271
1/8.... 7.909
mph... 95.34
1000.. 10.172
1/4.... 12.075
mph... 118.71 :smash:

3 runs in a row +95/+118 splits, best 1/4 trap ever

#5
60ft.... 1.877
330.... 5.137
1/8.... 7.774
mph... 94.12
1000.. 10.043
1/4.... 11.952
mph... 116.60

first sub 1.9 60 all night. I'm usually good for a low 1.8 at least once on a trip out, but not tonight.
Short shifted 2-3. Some bozo in a low 10 sec car comes roaring by me after delaying his launch for whatever reason (instant green night) and spooks the crap out of me......Coulda shoulda been lower ET/higher mph. :D

Either the track was prepped really poor, or I need to change my launch technique for the colder weather. The little 275/40 bfg's were uncooperative no matter what I tried. :nopity

Very nice runs, Blue.

Might want to try putting more heat on the BFGs. The hotter and stickier thay are, the better as track surface temps go down.

Cool air with a cold-air intake is about as good as it gets.

mati, I got the TB from Mark Shaner himself. I forgot his addy, just do a search on yahoo for S2 or Mark Shaner. You'll get it.

Ranger, I will give that a try next time. I think I've about used these 275/40's up; maybe I'll upgrade to the meatier 315's on the CCW's like you have. Thanks for the advice.

BLU,

What were your reference e.t.s? And what were track conditions and weather like on them?

Thanks,

the best trap bonestock occured in -500 DA ft (93.2 1/8 and 116.4 1/4)

this last time the weather was 0 DA ft and produced 95.5 1/8 and 118.7 1/4 (over 95/118 3 runs in a row)

here's my dyno today (only change vararam instead of tie wrapped k&n)

None of it makes any sense to me. Must be magic.

The vararam makes huge improvements in the 1/8.

It does great on the dyno.

And it does all this with ramair! :)

Seriously, has anyone done a test on a dyno with NO air filter at all?

Maybe the vararam's secret is that it somehow radically drops restriction levels in the air filter path?

Tom, I whole heartedly agree with your comment.....I don't believe the ram air either. My butt-o-meter said it was helping more in the mid range around town than it felt like the top end on the freeway. This was backed up by my track numbers and now the dyno today. The benefit at 5800rpm to redline is practically zippo on the dyno. But at 3900, I'm getting near 18 more ft lbs.

Maybe mine isn't typical since I have that shaner TB. Maybe that combo makes it's power lower. I don't know. But I do know I'll take, as I'd rather have better mid range for everyday driving.

My guess is that we may never know the "secret."

I'm tempted to get one and test it on the dyno as well.

I don't have easy access to a track locally, but if you can measure its gains on a dyno, that is pretty interesting...

I've been meaning to get a vararam. How hard is the install and did you have to modify anything?

If you have access to a lift, or jack stands and are good at working on yur back, it is about a 1 hour job but takes 2 people. I paid my local mechanic to do it as I am too old to lay on concrete working on a car :)

I did it on my own in a few hours. See here for pictures of the process:

Change zz0066 to z06 in the above URL.

The URL is correct, just change zz0066 to z06 in the above URL after it pops up.

This forum will not allow posting to the 'other forum'. This forum also will not allow you to display large images anymore.

I think you can still post large images, but they shrink on the forum to keep the pages from (annoyingly) expanding off the side of your monitor.

However, I believe you can click your mouse pointer ON the image and it will open up in a separate window at the full size. So that is actually an improvement.
