I am trying to fix some issues on my late father's 2004 C5 vert and I have a question about the driver's side window.
When you push the auto down button it goes halfway(sounds like scraping metal) and then stops...if I push the up button for a second and then auto down again it will go the rest of way down....When going up it doesn't make any odd noises and goes up with no stopping issues at all.
Is this something I could fix with some grease or lubricant, or does it sound like a motor issue?
Does it sound like a crunching noise? Kind of what you’re describing. If so you’re window regulator is failing. Very common issue with these cars. About $160 for the part and about a half hour of your time.

Somewhat that normal crunchy sound, but also sounds somewhat more like the track could be off slightly.
Personally, I would avoid the $30 window regulators. Get a better quality one.
like said above, you’ll inevitably break some pins.
inner skin isn’t bad at all. Only a black rubber water protection that you can easily peel back.
you will have to remove the speaker. 7 screws I believe.
be very careful prying off the door panel. I recommend looking specifically for each plastic pin and making sure you are prying on EACH pin. If you get one loose and just try to pull off the panel off generally, you will break off the plastic retainers on the door panel itself. The plastic retainers will break long before the pin will come out of the door. Don’t ask me how I know this. Haha.
finally, make sure and use tape on the outside of the window and mark the alignment as well as how the window sits in the two clamps. This will make reinstalling and aligning the glass go a lot easier.
