Does anyone have advice on Loctite specifically for my rear axle nut. I've read about guys using Loctite 272 for high heat and high strength but I want to remove the assembly later to put on new rotors.
Does the C5 require loctite on the axle nut? I've never put loctite on an axle nut.
I haven't either but I read an article on another Corvette forum (zo6?) where there was a problem on certain years of Vettes. The axle nuts were working themselves loose so Chevy put out a bulletin on the fix. I was thinking since I'm pulling off my rotors I may as well do it and not worry about it. I'll try to copy and paste it.

I've never used it on axle nuts, I'd use blue if I were going to have them off again and red if you never plan to do it again but if you do go with red and need to remove them make sure to use heat to loosen up the loctite

Yeah I read that I don't want to have to use heat when I may take them off soon.

basically the bulletin says use a new nut with Loctite red 272 and torque it down to...I wanna say 150 to 160. The initial specs called for 118 pounds. Keep in mind this was for a problem with cars that had the nut loosening on Corvettes and Cadillacs from 2005 to 2008. The discussion was IF you disassemble your rear axle do you use this new procedure? My idea was to yes use a new axle nut and Loctite and tighten it to 125 foot pounds. I think they were saying the Loctite allows a 5% more in torque. I just don't want to EVER have to break down something again. I want to do it once and not have to worry about it. Everyone is wired differently with different opinions though.
Dont need Loctite on axle nuts, but more importantly you do not remove the axle nut to remove the rotors. You do however have to remove the caliper brackets, Blue Loctite would be my recommendation.
Permatex makes an orange now that is great for needing the strength of red and the removability of blue. I used it on my TT bushing bolts and a few other items. May be worth a look for ya
