I was away for 16 days on the East Coast. Before I left I removed the CD changer magazine as you recommended last September. . I returned last Friday. I think I made a mistake. Without starting the engine I reinserted the magazine. It began cycling the 12 discs but stopped after a few. I then drove the car several miles, it cycled a few more. I suspect, since the battery was low, the changer was affected. Opening the sliding door has no effect (won't eject). Should I continue to drive the car, waiting for the changer to complete its cycling? I may put a charger on the battery. When running the battery gauge reads about 13 volts. I would rather not take the changer out and disassemble it again!
I would try completely charging the battery, then disconnect negative terminal for a few seconds, then reconnect and see if it continues to cycle through the CDs.

Might want to disconnect negative before you start charging if you are using a charger, since the CD changer gets power all the time. At least that is what I would do.

My go to Vette Mechanic recommended disconnecting the negative ANYTIME you charge the battery while in any car.
I realized (senior moment) that the battery is 10+ years old! I'm off to buy an Optima Yellow Group battery now (yes, I'll have them test the old battery first). Thanks for the insight! Will let you know if/when my cartridge of oldies is once again playing.

@BayVette Hi, Jerry! How are you doing? Hope everything is well
Well... yes, you did but since you didn't try to play any CD let's hope the changer can recover from the problem caused by the low voltage situation when you install your new battery, so you don't have to perform "surgery" again.

Please, let us know how it goes. I would strongly suggest you get a battery tender (not a trickle charger). Not only you will avoid this problem from happening again, but it will be good for your battery life.
New battery installed. When I got home I checked the changer. When I slid the access door to eject the magazine, the changer cycled 3 times (did not eject). When I closed the access door it cycled again 3 times.. The radio controls will play the single CD in the dash; there is no response when I toggle to the trunk mounted changer. Yes, the new battery is fully charged. Any insight will be most welcome!
My 2001 vert did the same thing. I ended up removing the entire CD changer from the car and completely disassembled it In order to remove the discs. 3 CD’s were stuck on the play platter. Since then I’ve only put one disc in the player at a time.
I'm well, thx. Turned 71 last month and I'm still on the green side of the dirt! One reply to my post suggested disc 4 is stuck, that's why the changer cycles 3 times then stops. I don't understand why it cycles when I open the access door and again when I close it. I did try to toggle from the dash CD to the changer. the changer is not recognized. 'Surgery' may be next?
Thanks

Hey, happy birthday, Jerry!
It seems the changer couldn't recover. The initialization process failed midway because of the low voltage situation like the last time. I'm afraid at this point, your only resource is "surgery" again.
As I mentioned above, I suggest that, if possible, you get a battery tender and leave it connected every time you're not going to be driving your car on a regular basis (and don't forget to remove your magazine).
I know you wanted to avoid going through all that again, but I'm sure this time you'll go through it in blink. Let me know how it goes

I went through the problems with these changers and are now very happy with the results. The dealer couldn't find the problem and suggested a complete new system. I first found that the power was open at the plug on the trunk unit. The male power wire terminal needed bent a little to take care of that. Then the upgrade and the remount. I've got quite a few hours on it now with no problems. The most knowledgeable is Doctor Don from Texas. He upgraded mine and advised me to change the mount to horizontal. If you are still having trouble call Don. He will make sure that your player problems are gone.
I took it apart (easier the second time!). One disc appears to centered on the 'turntable'. The magazine will only eject about 3/8", it won't budge (even with a little persuasion). . (photos attached). I welcome your sage advice my friend!

I plugged the chassis in and let it cycle once. The cartridge release lever popped it out! There is a disc on the turntable, I can move it partially out, seems stuck somehow. Maybe I'll grab it with small needle nose piers? Or, a bigger hammer! I'll keep fiddling, any suggestions?

Jerry,
Did the 12 trays come out with the magazine?
Now that the magazine is out of the way, can you try to plug the changer again with the covers off to see if with a little luck the changer realeases the CD stuck in the playing area? Stand by alert, so you can gently help the mechanism with the CD.
Try not to force things. What happens is that the playing mechanism needs to complete the current cycle as part of releasing a disc.
Let me know what happens. The more pictures you post, the better idea I could have of the situation.
Sorry for asking for help too soon. The disc is out!!! Time for reassembly. One day the beer(s) will be on me!
I'll let you know when it's all back together and rocking the oldies!
Take care
Jerry
Those are great news, my friend! I was writing my previous reply to you when you posted this
Let me know if everything is fine after you reassemble things.
I will suggest again that, if possible, you connect a battery tender whenever your car is not going to be regularly driven. Keep your magazine out as well (and don't insert it until you make sure everything is fine ).
All put back together; practice makes perfect. The car battery is brand new, is it safe to assume it will properly power the initialization? Oh, it was disc 1 that was stuck.
