Default Best clutch 99 C5

What is the best clutch for the money to replace mine in my 99 c5 Vette? Only mods are exhaust and intake.

Current OEM for LS1 is GM 12581650 -- do not order one from GMPartsdirect, that cost me pretty much two (2) months.
If I had it do over again, I'd go with GM 12570806, current LS6 OEM, $500 at Summit. Both include disc, pressure plate, and flywheel.

The LS7 clutch is beefier than the LS6. There are "exotic" setups out there but you will pay a lot more. That's why I went with the LS7

LS7 for me also and it's excellent. While in there replaced pretty much everything since the car did have 123,000 miles on it.

Very smart, good insurance

Have you guys thought of running a lightweight flywheel to offset some of the added LS7 clutch weight , or like butter smooth

From what i can tell, a complete clutch kit will cost around $500 and to install about $1,000?

i miss the days when changing a clutch was $300 labor.

If you don't race it or drive it hard, just get a stock replacement with lightweight FW to add a little pep to the setup.

I drove on a lightweight flywheel in my TA for some time with LS6 clutch and 4.10 gears, was a hoot!

Stock car? Street car? Stock clutch. You don't need anything more. The stock clutch was more than sufficient.

IF you can source the LS6 clutch *cheaper*, it's a viable alternative. I'm guessing its lighter (then the LS7 setup). Stood up to the Z's 400 some-odd hp easy, was a nice upgrade in it's day, I drove on it *with* a lightweight flywheel for over 50k miles in a 400 hp TA with a geared posi and 285's all around, nice and crisp.

It is a handful of pounds lighter than the stock LS7, which I think is worth a small price differential, but yeah you'd hope to get it if it's cheaper (which it should be, but might not always be.) Either one I'd pair with a lighter flywheel if the owner is ready for the changes that entails, because they're not particularly light kits.

I installed this kit from Scoggy Dickens. It is the LS7 clutch and pressure plate, and a Ram billet aluminum flywheel. It drives EXACTLY like my OEM LS6 clutch but holds the additional horsepower, and is about 3 lbs lighter. I did have the assembly zero balanced at a machine shop and although each was zero balanced from the factory, as an assembly it needed to balance done.

Interesting, with the lightweight flywheel, seems to be a very nice package, lots of hp, hows the pedal feel

It’s honestly identical to the stock clutch.
