Mirror has bronze halow around it and from all I have read it is shot. Viewed several youtubes and read several post about removal and I have found at times it is more dificult that appreas to be. Froggy has one on removal and he actually seperated the glass and mirror and cleaned up the fluid between the two and reused it but naturally W/O the auto dim feature which is fine by me. He shows tilting mirror up or down and prying mirror and backing plate from the pins that allows you to adjust it but not how he seperated the two and the trim ring. Anyone ever actually removed the mirror and seperated the two and if so how did you do it. Would like to just clean fluid up and reuse. Thanks
Froggy has some great "How-to" videos. And if worst comes to worst, you could always opt for purchasing a second mirror and swapping out the glass itself (mirror) if it bugs you that much.
I am trying to remember a Corvette parts website that had cheap replacement parts but it escapes me. It was not one of the big names.
Good luck and let us know what course of action you chose and how it came out.
Here is something I found on Ebay for $16.00:
Mirror Glass For 97-04 Chevrolet Corvette Driver Side Replacement
Thanks guys, yea not opposed to replacing. The mirror you referred to is a stick on over your existing mirror i think and I have read they don't look so good. A replacement mirror with backing plate is around 60.00 but no auto dim which is ok by me. May try prying it off and seperating
Guys I ordered one of the mirrors that sticks over the existing mirror. The one I ordered had entire sticky backing, peel and place. Some I saw had 3 or 4 pads that I think would make the mirror stick out farther than I wanted due to thickness of pads. EBAY for around 14 bucks. If you didn't know it you would never notice it, I am pleased with it. Didn't want to rip the mirror out and have to clean up the mess and still may not be acceptable. Here are couple picks before and after. Before, really dark around edges. After, took 30 seconds to install.
