Cabin air filter?

This foam piece is covering the cabin fresh air inlet. I am sure it is a filter but its kinda hokey. I was just wondering if it was installed in the factory or if it is something a previous owner added. I have never seen it on any other C5 that I have looked at.

It's an aftermarket filter. Corvettes did not have a OEM cabin air filter.

I put one on mine a few years ago. You'd be surprised how good that thing works keeping crap out.

Saw one for sale a month ago that were chrome, looked OK but not sure it is a filter as much as a decorative item.
