I got my shifter today and pulled the stock **** and boot off. By the looks of the stock setup it appears that I may be able to remove and install the Hurst WITHOUT removing any further panel ( like the concole and dash trim piece ). Is this a true statement and has anyone else done this. I install it tomorrow one way or another. Just curious.
I've heard it could be done but having done them the old school way I can't see how, you can't get the rubber boot off since its bigger than the hole and has hard plastic in the center and wont bend. :smash:
I suppose I'll find out tomorrow, while I wait for 6 yards of cold concrete to arrive for the pad that I am goind to pour to put my 3rd Gen Rax7 on since it's been moved out of the garage by the Z ....
Anyone else have any experience doing this shifter like this ?
I've changed shifters about 6 times ( I know..don't ask. ) Anyway...I've never taken the trim panel off. Just remove the AH panel and remove the 2 nuts that hold the trim panel down. Once you remove the 4 nuts that hold the rubber boot in place, put the shifter in 4th gear, lift it up off the studs.Slide it back and rotate it 90 degrees to the left(counter clockwise). Once you do this, you can pull the boot up through the hole in the trim console. :yesnod: It takes some manuevering....but it can be done. :yesnod:  Good Luck.

I just went out to the garage and tried his trick and it works like a charm.
Thanks man, I needed to change those shifter springs out and wasn't looking forward to it.
