Yeah its super weird. A lot of C5 sellers in particular think C5s are somehow rare and desirable collector cars but they were made in gigantic numbers. Every configuration was. They're as common as anything out there so you can always find a normal person selling theirs at a normal price so no reason to pay some goofy dude in jorts and white NBs with long socks 10k over market. "Oh but its the only yellow one with black interior without BSMs and a HUD built on a Thursday in a month that starts with a J" ......no its the same as all the others.
Alot of truth to the article. 80K on my brand new looking, dressed up C5 after 20 years. If a dealer offers me $10K I would be furious. Investing in raising my garage door and putting in a storage lift to make space for hopefully a C8 Z06 in a couple years
actually the Z's are SOMEWHAT low production. not a collector car but should hold value. Im surprised they actually made more GT500s compared to the 01 Z06 . Not even close to the Viper though.
When I bought my C5 I didn't bring any illusions forward concerning making a killing down the road in the collector car market. What I did see was the performance car bargain of the century. Very affordable prices that just about anyone can come up with, beautiful styling that remains relevant decades later, very nice performance which is easily enhanced from mild to truly amazing. I bought my C5 6m vert to enjoy, not as an investment to be left covered in a garage. The value is in the experience!

when I was C5 shopping I wouldn’t have believed that. I just wanted a targa top car. Z FRCs were way WAAAAY more common FS of CF.
I bought mine because it was my favorite cool car in high school. I have no expectations to make money when I sell.
Always the wanna be c5 owners rambling on how old and crazy c5 owners are.
dont buy the car if you Cant offer the seller enough money to motivate the sale...
offer the seller enough or take a walk and find a guy who doesnt care about the few pennies you cheap skates arent willing to cough up to actually own the car...

I have noticed the same thing. I've been keeping an eye on prices as I'm getting close to being in the market to buy. Prices haven't come down one iota. Asking prices are as high as ever, and private sellers and dealers alike are asking Z06 prices for low mileage base coupes. I guess they think these cars are museum pieces...

I willingly "ruined" the collectable value of my one-of-777 Dark Bowling Green metallic convertible; I changed the entire interior color scheme! Heresy!!
Good news is, I don't care, because it's how I want it to be! I'm not intending to sell it, I'm intending to enjoy it.
Ironically, I learned my lesson from owning a 2005 Mustang GT; I never drove the darn thing for fear of putting mileage on it, or getting it dirty. That car ownedme. I got rid of it and bought this 2000 Vette, and I swore I would use this car, and literally enjoy the ride.
Its unfortunate that anyone of you who feel corvette owners wont meet your budgetary constraints to own a sports car capable of amazing performance.
try not to bitch because you always want to pay less than a owner of a corvette is willing to sell their vehicle for..
after awhile if thats an occurance that seems to be a prevailing situation...you need to either choose a higher mileage example or raise the offer you are making to the corvette owner of the car you want to own.
so the solution would be for you guys either cough up more cash or go for higher mileage vehicles of choice.
Or keep not owning a corvette and whine about how the owners wont take your low offers..
maybe there will be a few sellers who dont care about sales price..
..raise your offers or lower your expectations,
