Default Help with deciding tire size

I’m thinking going to a wider rear tire, 2002 base coupe rear tire size 275/40/18 rim size 18x9.5 thinking about 285/40/18 what should I expect with this 10mm more tire? Performance, maybe issues, is it worth it, or should I stay oem 275 tell me all you know. Thanks

I ran 335/30/18s on the back of my C5 with an aftermarket wheel setup....I was also pushing 517 ft lbs of torque and about 550 rwhp......I did it for traction but it looked badass too

I have OEM Z06 rear wheels on my 02 coupe with 295/35-18 tires in the rear and they fit with no issues at all. Probably could go with a 305/35 too. The Z06 rar wheels are 10-1/2" wide so that may limit the tire size. The fronts are also OEM Z06 wheels in 17x9.5 with 275/40-17 tires and they also fit with no problems. Tires are Michelin Pilot Sports PS2.

Large tire selection available, in 275/40/18's. Just a quick search on Tirerack.com brought up 41 tires, in that size. The same search only found 4 tires, in 285/40/18.
If you are staying with the oem wheels, I would probably suggest staying with oem tire sizing, in your particular case.

I ran 285's on my Firebird on a 9.5" rim. According to TireRack that's the minimum width recommended for 285, but will work fine for most applications, other than maybe at the track, where there *might* be some rollover if very very aggressive. I say go for it.

I would say you can go with 255/285 and be ok on the rims and definitely with the stagger.
