Default Wheel damage!!!

Decided to check the tire pressure on all my vehicles today. While checking the Vette I discovered this nasty surprise . I have only had it out a few times this year since taking it out of storage and don't remember hearing any noises while driving it that would have caused this damage. There is no damage to the tire our the body that I can see. How the @$%# can this possibly happen. Anyone ever seen anything like this before? The tire pressure was at the 30 psi that it should be so its not losing any air and its been sitting for about a week now.

Wow that is super weird looking. Almost looks intentional but I can't imagine how you could do that type of damage without hurting the tire. Anyway, its ugly but it won't hurt. The tire and wheel don't seal at the lip anyway.

I'm far more concerned about the 9 year old tires. Time to throw those in the trash before they throw you in the trash!

I agree on the old tires. That caught my eye equally is quick as the damage.

No offense intended but that damage looks kinda old almost like it has a bunch of dirty stuff in it like brake dust. If it were fresh it would definitely be shiny aluminum.

Very odd that there is not even a hint of a mark in the rubber.

Like oharal said. I wouldn't be scared to drive it at all.

Might want to consider some new tires and wheels in the near future.

That is some strange looking damage. Almost looks like something that could have happened when installing tires. As long as it is not leaking air, you’re OK. I’m sure one of the wheel repair vendors could fix it if you really wanted it taken car of.

And yeah, 9 year old tires should be replaced.

All I know is that it wasn't there when I purchased the car back in September of last year. I will just have to live with it even though I am a perfectionist and it bothers me that it is there. As far as the tires go replacing them anytime in the near future is no go. I have been off of work since March 20th and my wife a week before that so. I am fortunate to be getting paid but at only 75% of my base salary (which isn't much to begin with) and my wife is not getting paid at all and is on unemployment. We have no idea when we will be returning back to work. Thank you guys for being concerned about the tires for me. They appear to be in very good condition and have absolutely no sidewall or tread cracking or signs of dry rot. They will have to do for now until we get back on our feet again.

Sorry to hear times are getting tough for you.
I would think one of those rim repair shops could bring that rim back to new condition. It sure doesn't hurt to ask them.
As far as the tires, every tire manufacturer (go to the different web sites) say a MAX of 10 years for the life of a tire. Some say 6 or 7 too but none are over 10.

I just got done reading a write up on tire rack about tire age and when to replace them and it was very informative. I knew the tires would need replacing at some time so that was part of the bargaining when it came to purchasing the car. The last owner owner had the tires installed and only put 700 miles on them in 8 years. Kind of a waste to spend that kind of money on tires and not use them in my opinion.

If a old tire goes flat ,you probably, won't
have damage. If it blows off of the rim you will
have body damage. Experience is a good teacher.
You better do a price comparison, fix the old wheel
or buy new.
Good luck

Man, that is not what you want to find! I'm so sorry to read your post, Adwest! If I may suggest, there may be advantages to buying a wheel and tire combo package when the time comes to do it. I can pm you the website I used, so as not to step on any vendor's toes here on the forum.

Yeah, it sure wasn't something that I wanted to find. I had intentions, when it came time to replace the tires, to get a new set of different wheels anyways. I really want to get a set of chrome C5 Z06 wheels because I have always liked the looks of those.
