Default Button typo

Had my car for going on 4 yrs now. Always looked odd to me, but never really put it together till a friend pointed out that "Gages" is spelled wrong on my cluster button. Apparently they omitted the u. Any reason as to why? Did a quick search of the forum and couldn't find a thread and surely i'm not the first person to notice. Couldn't have been for space because they squeezed in options properly spelled.

It's not "wrong" - it's an alternate spelling:

Interesting, until you pointed it out I never notice. But I am spelling challenged. Anyway, it is just another example of the C5 design/engineers more concerned about making this car electrically and mechanically complicated then paying attention to the basics. Sorry ET.

From the web site: "The verb gauge, which refers to measuring or estimating, also has a variant gage. This variant appears to show up primarily in informal sources, though not often. Gauge is by far the preferred spelling in general usage for both the noun and the verb; we encourage you use it."

Gauge is the preferred spelling Chev/GM goofs again.

Such a massive goof. It's probably totalled. Better sell it.

Seems goofy to use an "alternate" spelling when the commonly used one clearly would have fit since options did..

I've always preferred the 'gage' spelling, and use it often in a technical environment -- never had any pushback from other engineers or technical writers.

I hope he doesn't point out the massive gap that you could drive a truck through where the center bezel meets the dash - you better never sit in your passenger seat, or you will have a whole new thing to notice. lol

This may need its own thread. Why would anyone sit in their passenger seat?!

Too bad the car is out of warranty. Now you're stuck with it.

The spelling is fine - probably saved a few pennies by leaving out the one letter.
