2020 C5 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
Default dirty butt

Okay, I have what is probably an age old question so PLEASE put up with me. Why does the back of my C5 get dusty/dirty when I'm driving, especially on the highway? Frustrating to wash and wax and looking good for a road trip, only to stop for a bit and see the *** is dirty. Makes you wonder what other people on the highway thought.

It's a function of the aerodynamics of the car. The dust is sucked onto the posterior just because... I just don't let the car in back of me get close enough to see it

In addition to aerodynamics being the main factor, static is the second. Carnauba wax attracts dust like a magnet. You can lessen the static by switching from wax to a synthetic sealant or ceramic coating as your paint protection choice. You can also use a detail spray known for anti-static qualities between washes. Kenotek "Showroom Shine", Chemical Guys "Extreme Slick Synthetic Detailer", and Eagle One "Wipe & Shine" are all detail sprays that have been known to reduce static charge.

I carry a small bag with microfiber towels and a small spray bottle of waterless wash just for this reason. I like to keep my butt clean.

The stage 2 spoiler on my 17 GS seemed to help over the stage 1, I think spoilers on the C5 looks odd but could help, IDK.

My car being white picks up dirt and dust like a magnet I've resorted to having a can of Dust Off and blast it away, specially around the tail lights.

Vettes have had this problem for many years and in fact is a problem on just about every car. As the car goes down the road, it creates a suction that tends to bring all the road dust up and deposits it on the rear area of the car.
