2001 Vert / 273 Diff
Trying to go to a 373 from a 273
The guy that is going to do it says he is having trouble getting the ring and pinion
the reason I have been given is that with this virus stuff the manufacturer has slowed production but is working on it
with the research I have done myself (and found nothing definitive) I am assuming here, and am asking am I right?
I'm thinking the 273 is a throw away diff
there are numerous things you can do with a 315 or 342 but absolutely nothing out there for a 273
everything I have seen says 315 or better, I have found ring and pinion's but none for a 273
am I going to have to bite the bullet here and just buy a whole new or rebuilt diff
the ones I have seen have a core charge but do not want the 273 diff as a core
am I in the ball park with my thinking or is the 273 diff upgradeable
You cannot put any 3 series gear in a 2 series diff.
You're going to have the change the entire unit to achieve what you're trying to do.
Thank You, that's the answer I have been looking for
I haven't seen anything that has told me that definitively, but from all the info it is what I assumed
I would think the place that is going to do the work would know that (supposed to be one of the best in the state)
although it really hasn't been discussed whither he was going to use my diff or rebuild another
You might consider finding a take out 3.42 diff, it would bolt in and it's quite an improvement behind an automatic. They can be found for less money than finding a core and building one. I have done both and a 3.42 makes an automatic a lot more fun for a lot less money. Good luck finding what you want.
I'm pretty sure that's what the plan is
he said he would replace all seals, new posi clutch packs and 373 ring and pinion
supposed to talk again monday
If you get a take out diff definitely have it rebuilt while it is out with some more robust belville washers that won't break. Chances are any take out diff you find is probably either already failed or on the way out. It would suck to put it in and take it right back out. Ask me how I know!
