Default Question about Headers

Hey all! I have a 2004 z06 and was curious about headers and the EGR system on our cars. I noticed you can delete the EGR system when going with after market headers and doing whats in this youtube video to totaly remove the system. (
) When shopping for headers, company like Kooks (for example) offers a system with and without the EGR fittings in place. However, LG Motorsports also offers header systems but, only come with the fittings on them. so my question is whats the deal with keeping the EGR or not, deleting it and removing the whole system? just for reference my car is completely stock and I drive it some what regularly. Maybe 5 out of 7 days, I want to keep the stock titanium exhaust. Also if anyone has any other header recommendations go ahead id love to hear what everyone else is running.

(Kooks systems mentioned)

(LG Motorsports system as mentioned)

C5s do not have an EGR system. EGR stands for exhaust gas recirculation. They do have an Air Injection system which is used for lighting off the cats on a cold start.

I personally would not buy a header system for a C5 that retains the AIR system. It should be removed in it's entirety plus the car will see significant enough changes that it should be tuned to remove all associated codes and make most efficiency of power.

If you are not going to tune the car there is literally zero point in going to long tubes IMO.

This is my personal opinions and they may vary from others.

Also the Z06 doesn't use a specific header that is different from any other C5.

Yeah, problem on mine is the AR Headers have the Air ports, and if you plug them shut, the vibration then will bust them off. I've left my trash in place and I hate it. Don't want to pull the headers and TIG the holes shut though, so I suffer...lol.

Why the reluctance to retain the AIR system? Less emissions is better, and headers are likely to lead to richer starts and running.

It's unnecessary. I'll keep my evap purge valve just to keep you happy though.

Also let me know what you think of your AIR system the next time you go to service your spark plugs.

To be fair I'm one of those evil people that has an engine modified to the point there the AIR system isn't countering anything.
