Default Water pump is leaking

Just finished fixing the harmonic balancer, now the water pump is leaking. In retrospect I'm happy the puddle under the car wasn't oil. Was scared the HB main seal was leaking.

What pump / thermostat / housing have you purchased? Summit has the ACdelco, I assume it makes sense to replace the thermostat and it's housing too.

Did you use new gaskets when you re-installed the water pump after hb?

I would go with the LS7/LS3 water pump, they say its lighter, gets you a couple hp. FYI i think it requires the thermostat to be changed as well.

Whatever lifetime warranty parts store part is available. That way, if/when it fails down the line, you can replace it and aren't stuck waiting for Summit to ship you one.

Agreed. I didn't touch the water pump during the install. It is just coincidence that this issue has risen, but it was bound to sooner or later.

Since you changed the balancer yourself, you can definitely handle the water pump. I just did mine. I replaced everything with stock AC Delco parts. It can get a bit messy and it's a pain to get to. I used a tiny bit of silicone to hold the gaskets in place when putting the new pump on. You'll know why when you get to that point. Good luck.

Indian head gasket shellac is great for that. Used it on engines I've built for YEARS.

Same here. Ironically just replaced mine this past weekend. And the advice to use some RTV to hold the gaskets in place is nearly mandatory. Its also going to make a mess no matter how big your catch pan is! Took about 3 hours.

AC Delco parts are a good choice. That is what I would go with.
