Default Engine Temp.

Just got my 2004 Z-06 out of the shop. Replaced the radiator due to overheating. The old radiator was very dirty from an off road mishap. Took it for a ride tonight to find it still running hot. It got up to 212 degrees while doing some frisky driving, but not too frisky. It settled back down to about 207 driving normally. The A/C was on. What is a normal range for the coolant temperature for my car? Thanks for your help. Big Al

It’s perfectly fine!! I see temps of 230-235 pushing mine in the canyon, 250 is getting hot. Drive it like you stole it. 😁

I'd be really happy with 212, that's not an issue what so ever.

Stolen from a thread here:

The low speed cooling fans are commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). They are turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fans are commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). They are turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fans will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).

You are fine. Drive it.

The temp on your car is just fine. The LS engines run hotter than previous generations. If it gets up past 235*F, then look into potential problem areas.

Yeah But.......... Clean the debris that's most likely there at air flow entrance and attach a screen to the underside of chaise.. That'll catch "the big stuff" from lodging and restricting the air flow route to the rad.... That is If you drive in a trashy kind of area.

He has already replaced the radiator (which unless damaged was probably not needed, just needed cleaning) so the cleaning it out is not his issue. Normal temps unless set to run cooler are 210-20°

My datapoint...
My '03 C5 Coupe has a huge H/C build in it. I run a 160* thermostat. l have no additional oil cooler. I run 190 on the street, and it is 235 when I get off of the racetrack. I've been doing this for years with no issues.

Not to hi-jack the thread BUT what oil temps do you see street and track?

I would consider anything under 220 to be awesome.

Ah... It was in my post. It's 190 degrees on the Street, and 235 degrees on the Track.

I wish mine would read 190 on the street. It is 210. After reading all the post, seems like this is normal.

I was talking about coolant temps. Is 210 on the street high for coolant temps?

2001 manual, 117,000 miles. My normal coolant temperatures before I replaced my radiator (it had developed a leak) averaged around 210-220 and after a new radiator installed a couple of weeks ago; my car continues to average around 210-220. Which isn't to say 210-220 isn't a high "street" temperature...only to say it is a normal temperature range for my car. In fact (after warmed up), around 210-220 is where temperatures run winter, spring, summer and fall, city or highway. If your coolant temperatures average around 210, it appears that your car runs cooler than mine.

Pretty sure when you are cruising under optimal conditions it should read just a smidge over 190, that’s what mine does. If you look in the manual you will see that the diagram has the temperature gauge depicting this exact position.

City driving usually it gets to 220 (vertical) and when I’m really going hard on the car, prolonged stop and go, or summer hot days you will notice it get to 235 before the fans kick back on.

This is with a 2004 coupe, driven all its life no garage queen over 100k miles.

You are correct. When I get off the track Coolant is ~205 - 210, Oil is ~235
On the street Coolant is ~190, I don't recall the Oil temp.(low 200's)
