Default Rear quarter panel clear peeling

I've got an area on my rear quarter panel that's recently started bubbling, and is steadily getting worse. I think I've heard you can just get the clear resprayed. How much would you expect to pay for that service if I just brought them in the panel so I wouldn't have to pay the labor for them to pull it off?

I would expect to pay between $300 and $500. I would think there would be no reason to pull the fender off though. They should be able to do the work as is.

Ok, I didn't know if they'd need it pulled to get a seamless respray.

most likely they'll want the panel still on the car so they can blend the clear to the surrounding panels to make a better transition. Call the shop you plan on taking the car to (or getting a quote) and ask them what they would like, panel on or off.

After spending quite a few years painting cars, including Corvettes, I would say removing the panel is the best way to go if they are not hard to remove. No experience there. I will be surprised though, if you are able to get away with just painting the clear. The edges of the factory clear coat will have to feathered out, and in my opinion it is highly likely that some of the basecoat will get damaged/sanded away, necessitating some basecoat being blended onto the panel and the entire panel being cleared. Not a difficult job depending on the color and though I've been away from the trade for a while now, I'm guessing in the $500 range. I just bought a pint of PPG MY basecoat and it was $170. So adding in reducer, clear, and hardener, material will add up quickly.

I thought I had read about people getting away with respraying clear, but I don't really know much of anything about paint work. It's Navy Blue metallic I think.

The darker color the better. Whatever they do it should be easy to blend.

The clear on my car started peeling like you describe. trouble is , once it peels it will continue. moisture gets under the clear and it has to be sanded back until you have a good bond. I was told that it would be impossible not to damage the base coat feathering the clear . My car has a metallic color on it and they said it would be difficult to match the metallic paint also
