FE1 to FE4 spring swap issue
I am swapping from F45/FE1 springs to Z06 FE4 springs. The rear was a piece of cake but the front is giving me a couple of challenges. I have the upper control arms, lower shock bolts and sway bar links disconnected. I have the FE1 spring out.
The FE4 spring is hitting my oil pan and the bushings aren't lining up in the brackets. I suspect I need to get some weight on the spring and take some of the deflection out to get the bushings lined up in the brackets and the spring clearing the oil pan. What is the best way to go about this?
My thoughts are either set the spring in place, bolt it up as loosely as I can, reassemble the front suspension and set the front tires on ramps. Hopefully when I lower the car down and the spring straightens out, the bushings fall into place in the brackets and I can put the lower spring retainers on and bolt them down.
My other thought is to line up one bushing in the bracket, tighten it down and then jack up the control arm on that side, then move on to the other side and hope it all lines up.
Anyone tackled this project that can offer insightful advice? The springs are out of a 2003 Z06 with 30k miles and are exactly as they came off the car.
