Road Pilot, can you give me more detail on how the firing order effects the sound? I hadn't considered the firing order in this. I thought it had to do with the split dual exhaust.
Mr. Peabody, that was an interesting read which lead me to other discussions on this. Thank you. From what I pieced together, it seems to me, there are three main reasons for the sound to be as it is; the engine block being aluminum that produces a higher pitched echo of detonation, the firing order that I don't really understand the effects of and the crossover pipe, be it H or X, that has better scavenging and blends the exhaust notes from both sides of the engine and lets them come out both sides of the exhaust at the same time as compared to the old true dual exhaust. I talked to a guy yesterday who handles American Racing Headers and does some custom work along with tuning. He told me he could get an exhaust modified by ARH to give me the old muscle car sound. He wouldn't elaborate because he obviously wants me to have him do the work. I believe removing or modifying the H pipe to create a dual exhaust and perhaps a mild cam would work. Maybe one day when the extra money is available I will find out. For now I will enjoy it the way it is. Besides, now I have a more pressing issue with the left actuator on the AC throwing codes. If anyone has any tips on that problem, I am all ears.
