Mine, like a number of others, split and dumped its contents, under warranty luckily. Even though the dealer replaced it with a new Delco, I've never really trusted Delco batteries since.

Yes, my understanding is that the OEM battery, catalog 1809, had that issue.
These days, there is someone completely different making the batteries- it’s just a label anymore. I’d have no hesitation using a Delco battery. I’m merely looking to mock up a battery which looks like the original for NCRS judging purposes. And because I’m a geek.

I was luck my original lasted 5 years and didn’t leak. Just yesterday I put a new delco in, their top of the line battery. 140 installed. Youngest daughter works at the dealer. Got her price. I will install a battery pad.

Mine has an Interstate. Nice battery but for NCRS judging (and my geekiness) this just won’t do. Keep that great GM feeling...
Bob, re you re earlier question about lock nut bags. You do understand that the bags you were looking for were not part of the OEM '98 lock nut package? The nuts were installed on the production line and the lock came tucked into that indent in the floor - no bag came with the car.
There was a Optima Red Top AGM Battery in my '99 Coupe back in 2010 when I purchased it. The previous owner had just put it in the car. I replaced it with a Duracell AGM Group 78 Battery I picked up at Sam's Club about 2 years ago. Works great. I Still leave a Battery Tender on it though like most C5 and C6 owners do when not in use.
