Default Steam cleaned the engine

Busted out my steam machine to clean it up, before this terrible disease hit me I ran a high end detailing business and I just couldn't stand to see the engine of my new to me, 3rd Vette, dirty

Done

Looks great. Did you clean it with literally just water steam, or any cleaners/chemicals as well? What's the method, just steam and wipe with a cloth?

I have a Rowenta garment steamer and wondering if that would achieve the same result, since I don't have a professional detailing steamer.

I use the dupray steam machine. Most of it was all steam. I did use some soap and water on the valve covers but other than that I use straight steam.

Very impressive. I also have a garment steamer. I may try this out to see if it would work. Thanks for sharing.

No problem. Steam works great for the carpets and overall sterilization and cleaning. Cleans out the vents and everything.

Looks amazing! In that top picture, did you treat any of the plastic pieces with any sort of dressing, or is that just their natural finish when clean? Either way, it looks great!

Holy crap why have I never thought of this?? I have a steam buggy sitting in the garage and I've always been hesitant to hit the engine bay with a regular old garden hose like most people do. Too many sensitive electrical connections. Thanks for the idea, I'll definitely be doing this soon!

I haven't been able to eat for 2 years. I sure miss it. And I did apply some dressing. Meguiars professional rubber and plastic dressing. Spray on, close the good and run the engine for about 15 minutes. Open the good and wipe off any access and it looks amazing. It's what I've been doing along with the steam on all the vipers, Ferraris, labia and GTS I've done. I've used steam for all my interiors, door jams, sills, tight spaces such as the cracks on the door handles. It works great. I use the dupray cleaner. Here is a pic. It's the top one.

I have the McCulloch pictured there. The steam isn't too much for the interior panels and such? I'm very surprised they hold up to that

Now that I think about it, the steamer may be exactly what I need to use for caked on brake dust on the tight spokes of some Classics I'm trying to clean up!

Just use it at a distance. It works amazing on body bolts to clean them up, door jams and brake rotors along with any tight spade. For added cleaning spray some all purpose cleaner and then use it. Plus it comes with hard bristled attachments and a brass bristle attachment. It works amazing. I use it to steam out my vents. Just put it in a vent and hold the trigger. Steam circulates and goes out all vents and helps disinfect it. I've used steam for years. All the body lines that are tight, use steam and just wipe off

No problem plus if you like cleaning and "playing" with your car, it's fun honestly.

Quick question - how do you clean the alternator and other aluminum engine components and brackets? I’m always nervous about putting anything on the alternator especially

I held it at a distance and wiped. I have a new alternator so I didn't have to worry
