I just bought a group 78 AGM battery at Advanced Auto for $150 with their 25% coupon. It's a DieHard brand which they acquired from Transformco (aka Sears). According to Wiki, EnerSys makes the DieHard AGM batteries as well as the Odyssey battery. Anyone have a DieHard AGM?
I had a DieHard AGM for about a year. It was terrible. I went back to a wet battery from Napa. (Napa has a 7 year prorated warranty.)
I was a HUGE DieHard fan. But the quality just went downhill Hopefully it is back now though. DieHard used to have a 7 year prorated warranty on all of their batteries. Then they went to 3 years. Then it became a massive hassle to deal with them (they had to keep battery 24 hours in 'microwave charger' before they would declare it bad). Then Sears were closing left and right, so it was tough to get to a location.
The Sears automotive service business was horrible. After a couple of bad experiences probably 20 years ago, I stopped going there. Since the DIeHard brand is owned by AA, I will only have to deal with the local AA store if there is a problem. I installed it and fired her up. Wow, what a difference when it cranks. The ACDelco I removed was 9 years old and it turned over slowly even after charging.
Although I usually purchase vehicle batteries from Walmart. I recently replaced one in my Ram Hemi using the 25% coupon from AA. Since there are only a few companies making these in the US it's all about price for me.
Seems like most retailers have switched to the 3-yr free replacement and no longer offer pro-rated replacements. I started buying Interstate batteries from Costco...no questions asked when time for warranty replacement. They are comparable in price to Wally World and easier to deal with from purchase to replacement, if needed.
