Default Torque tube coupler carnage

Picked up my first vette a few weeks back. It's a 2001 c5, ls3 swapped h/c/i with a yank converter and a rpm transmission. When I test drove the car I felt a slight chatter at low rpms, but nothing crazy. After a few launches on drag radials this week it let me know it wasn't happy anymore. Symptoms were an extreme vibration at 2000 rpms, and a rattle at idle. This being my first vette I was concerned about misdiagnosis on my part, but looks like I called this one correctly. What's the general consensus on the best replacement couplers? I wanted to do a carbon fiber shaft but the lead time is longer than I really care to wait. Car makes 500 at the tires and will only go up.

GM couplers are the obvious answer most will give ya. If you dive down deeper you will find GM sources their couplers from a German company called SGF, who makes them for many manufacturers in the automotive industry including BMW and Mercedes. The GM parts are even stamped with SGF branding. You can order the BMW part number for half the cost of the GM part number and get the same quality and part. For example BMW uses the coupler, aka “guibo”, post transmission and not before the transmission like our cars and are therefore subjected to much higher rpm’s and abuse
than what occurs in our torque tubes. That should be somewhat encouraging if someone gives ya the GM part or nothing speech. And the torque tube is the same in your C5 and C6’s so it should handle 500 hp no problem. I put them in my 457 rwhp car and have zero concerns.

Damn those are bad, I put the BMW couplers in my car several years ago and have had zero issues, but my car is stock. I do daily drive it though.

I recently rebuilt my torque tube with the "BMW" couplers for my '01 Z06. I went with Febi brand P/N 26111227410, and I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better deal than this: https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/...410-MFG57.aspx

Are you planning bearing replacement as well? (i.e. full torque tube rebuild)

I run a alum coupler wrapped in rubber. Some run a bare alum
coupler but you can pick up some vibration (if at both ends).
Good luck

yes I'm rebuilding the whole thing. I ordered a kit from rpm transmissions today. Hopefully will get to make some passes on it soon, only had it a month and already got to put a starter on it and now this. She'll be new before long.
