Hello All, it's been a busy summer and my 2002 C5 has been under the cover since February after having it out to get the state inspection complete and some other repairs found during the inspection. I just took the cover off tonight hoping to take it out this weekend for a trip and found the seats and much of the interior covered in what appears to be mold. Wondering if others are have ever run into this and any cleaning advice that may be out there. The plan is to get most of it cleaned so I can take it to a professional detailer for a more extensive cleaning. If there are any suggestions that would be helpful in my search for a detailer, it would be appreciated.
I am located in the northwest part of North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We have lived here less than 2 years, lived in the Midwest previously, so not sure if it is something due to the area as I have never had this issue before.
In my opinion when storing a car and having a cover on it, especially outdoors, it's best to throw a couple of desiccant bags in it to keep the moisture out.
You may want to post this in the southeast regional forum. If you do have the car in a garage, I've heard it can help to keep your windows down. Either way, Adwest is correct that a few desiccant bags (or even a bag of kitty litter) can also help prevent this issue in the future. Good luck getting it cleaned. It isn't going to be cheap.

Mix up a solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the affected areas and let sit for a bit. Wipe them down and then let the car sit in the sun. The heat will assist in killing the mold.
Post in the Car Care section -I’d bet someone there can help you.
Yup.....some of this occurs due to what we clean/spray on the interior. Some stuff leaves a sticky surface (after a long time) that may be contributing to the problem.
Either way.....you're gonna clean it and drive that baby so all is good
