Does it hurt anything to remove mufflers and run car , does it have any bad effects on motor or sensors,?

I don't think so. Some people run pipes that do not include any mufflers and aftermarket companies offer versions that do not include mufflers.

Nope, I run my black 99 with cut outs always open so technically no mufflers. No problems at all.

No, it'll just sound like a redneck truck if it's stock, but no ill effects to anything but your hearing and good taste.

I did this in 2005 where the passenger side flange bolts to the midpipe weld broke.

So took both mufflers off.

Drove around a while and thought it sounded good and loud, then ended up buying a used c5 exhaust off Craigslist, put it on later and decided it sounded much better, the tone, a deep good sound instead of just loud.

The no muffler was loud and kind of more of a higher pitch sound, I would describe as unrefined, even though stock exhaust is quite the deep tone sounded so much better.

First drive thru at taco bell I thought someone else's car had nice exhaust, then realized it was my car, being a convertible I think it may seem louder to a driver than non convertibles.

Also it would do popping or backfire sound on letting off gas say doing a freeway exchange.

By the way you have to get the car extremely high to get mufflers in or out, without a lift it's slightly scary, even had front wheels on ramp.

A 3 ton big jack still needed lots of wood and phone books to get enough height, I had jack stands, and never got under car while lifting as high as it needed, as jack stands were too short.

Stayed behind car to pull out mufflers, and same thing years later when putting on new/used mufflers.

Oh also going through a parking lot and going slow let off gas, you get a weird exhaust sucking back inside sound, well with manual transmission, it was a weird sound and reminded me of like when you have a fart but hold it in around people to be nice, then the fart decides to try going somewhere else and goes backwards and makes that noise, haha I was on a date once with someone I just met and after dinner that happened, she said "oh your tummy is making sounds" but I was thinking no it's a fart that is searching for a place to go.

😆

Think I will leave it alone, sounds like it will create more problems than I need

PHONE BOOKS?
jeeze... that goes on at least page one of "how not to jack your car". What kind of idiot uses a phone book to lift the car?

If you're thinking of using phone books... just bring it to a mechanic.

It was 15 years ago and I should have taken it to exhaust shop, but did not know how high the car needed to be lifted until pulling the exhaust out over the rear suspension.

Was not suggesting anyone do this, was telling the original poster to not do this.
