CarFax is garbage in, garbage out. Which means only what was reported by the shop is reported on the CarFax. It is far from the be-all-end-all of vehicle history. I see cars come in on trade all the time with accident damage and "clean CarFax reports"
No, they would not recognize any of the shops. It would only say, if reported, the garage that did the work, and vague information like "Engine serviced" or similar.
it won't be on the car fax. However, if you get the VIN, you can probably contact the tuner in question. They'll have record of it.
I talked to Lingenfelter today, 48 hour turnaround for info on if they built a car via vin, $45. Looking at a C4, supposedly Lingenfelter, Friday. Probably get car fax instantly, that's why I was asking. Might not get Lingenfelter info till Tuesday. Owner has no documentation on car and won't send me pic of vin. It's one of those deals to good to be true, but worth looking into, especially for the price. Thanks for the replies.
Best of luck. My advice would be to wait until you hear back from Ligenfelter. If the seller refuses to give you the VIN...walk away. Even if it is a genuine Ligenfelter, you'll still want to get a reliable pre-purchase inspection. If the seller won't agree to that...walk away.
