I installed a set of new, similar, open air style shrouds given to me a few years ago from a friend who opted to sell his 2003 anniversary coupe. I installed a Calloway Honker CAI at the same time and thought it might benefit from additional airflow. I don't think they make any real difference consider the C5 remains a bottom feeder when it comes to air intake, but they do look nice.

I opted to drill about 4-1” holes in each one, saved the trouble of replacing. Put a screen in the intake. Looks nice. But doesn’t add any additional cooling air, I have a Raid air filter set up.

I'm installing them in an attempt to slightly lower coolant temp as opposed to intake temp. Thanks for the pic. I have seen cars with the hole saw method and really didn't like it personally.

My black 99 coupe had these already installed. The car is supercharged so without a doubt it help lower temperatures. I've also cut a big hole in where the front license plate normally goes.
Sorry, the car was not clean when I took these pictures.

Where did you get the mesh screeon & license pocket cover? I have 97 C5 base I bought a used zo6 oem air cleaner and put on only the top air cleaner lid which has a big hole. My air cleaner cover has no hole except i did see like 3 round holes on both ends on underside. I figure If i did what you did there least I will get better air flow into air cleaner.

Sorry, the screen and plate surround was on the car when I purchased the car so I don't know where they came from. Then I hit a possum and the front bumper had to be replaced. That's why I had to cut another hole.

Those fog light surrounds do look good, but unless you have an aftermarket air intake, I’m not sure the increased air flow through the surrounds will make a difference. I guess it doesn’t hurt to try them, and even if there is no change in air flow, the looks could be worth it.

This thread got me thinking. I have an A&A kit, so my air intake is on the passenger side roughly behind the stock fog light cover. The supercharger is actively sucking in air, so I don't think I can really do anything to increase the air flow. However, if I were to open this area up it would possibly lower the intake air temp. Rather than go with these screens (which will be a minor PITA to install), I'm going to use a hole saw to drill a few holes in the stock shroud. Just ordered a set of high quality Z06 fog light screens to cover up my handy work. This cost about the same, but will be much easier to actually do (and will look better IMHO).

It's an OEM license plate holder. You can get them all day on eBay for about $30. Then you just find a mesh of your liking, cut it to fit (size of a license plate and it slides right in) and use the lower license plate screws to hold it in. I put one together for myself months ago with a plastic honeycomb grille and have plenty of leftover material to make about 10 more "screens" if it catches a rock or something one day. Super easy to do. Here's another dirty car picture for your viewing pleasure:

The filter has plenty of air available already. The dongle is the most restrictive part there. If you want to increase airflow (which will increase boost and warrant a retune), make a 4" inlet tube fit. I'm interested in seeing if that has any effect on intake temps considering that air is instantly heated going through the blower and then cooled again going through the intercooler. I honestly don't see it making a difference in IAT, but it's free and easy to do

Yeah I know it's kind of a long shot. My thought was that if the air is cooler before it hits the supercharger, it might not get quite as hot while it's in the supercharger. As a result, if it is cooler (than it was before) when it hits the intercooler, it might be even cooler afterwards. I don't think it's going to make a significant difference, but it's a good excuse to get Z06 screens. If it lowers the intake temp by a degree or two, great. If it doesn't, I'm not that worried.

Haha yup I hear you. A lot of the things we do are just an excuse for a chance to tinker with the car. I may end up with black Z06 screens sooner or later as well.

If you want the functionality, but end up not liking the look, you can add race mesh screens. I removed the cold air screens to install a Vararam CAI and didn't like that I could see some of the hardware of the Vararam when I got down to eye level. So I put race mesh screens over both the cold air and brake cooling vents. The large ones are held in place with double-sided velcro so they stay in place but I can still remove to clean or get to the fog lights.
