Hello all, I have a 98 with long tube headers and my starter solenoid is giving me trouble, I thought if I have to remove the header, while its off I would like to find a starter made for the higher heat from header, some kind of high heat starter. Does anyone know of such a beast? Been looking online with no luck.
I've never heard of such a thing, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Something you could consider, however, it the "heat shield wrap" that you use to cover the starter. I believe it's made by a company called DEI.......try Summit Racing or Jegs.

Heat shielding is the solution. I've been holding off on headers because of the potential heat issues. However, I have a plan to deal with those issues. I'm going to be installing some hood louvers. I'll also have my headers ceramic coated. In addition, I plan to install heat shielding over my plug wires, starter, and starter wires. If your headers are not ceramic coated, you may want to get them coated while they're out. Alternatively, you could have them wrapped.

Thanks for any answers.
I've never had this problem, and I have LT Kooks 1-7/8 headers, and they're not coated. I'm also running a built LS7 427 cubic inch engine.. I've been in traffic in 118°-120° weather with 115,000+ miles on the stock starter. Again, no trouble. I'm not saying it can't happen. I had a built 383 in an IROC Camaro with LT headers and a stock starter. I had this happen whenever I drove it at freeway speeds for any distance!! Wouldn't even click when key was turned. I believe some vendors sell a "starter insulator" that isolates it from heat. I believe you should perhaps buy a new starter, or maybe first buy an insulator, and coat and/or wrap your headers. The stock starter is a very good unit. These steps aren't intended to be a "be all, cure all", just what I would do with my own car. Good luck, and hope this helps.
