Default Help identify Engine?

Previous owner said engine was ls3, when i changed the oil it didnt take the LS3 oil filter but took the LS6 oil filter fine...is there any way to identify what kind of engine is currently in the car?car is 04 z06 ( car in pic not related)

On a ls3 the crank position sensor is located on the right front of the engine by the timing chain cover

Isnt that where the Cam sensor is located?

LS6 has ‘243’ heads, that number will be stamped on the front of the heads, it’s pretty clearly visible on one of the heads.

Oil filter is decided by the oil pan is it not?

Correct.

OP - look at your front timing cover.

If there's a sensor on it, it's a Gen4 engine of some kind (LS3, L92, etc.).
